PAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 2006. Sports Short Putts - By Bill Johnston Twenty were out for Wednesday men's senior competition at the Wingham golf course. Clayton Ruppel with pars on two, five and seven walked away with top prize for the day. Tied for second, one stroke back were Ray Walker and Ken Saxton. There were no birdies to report but more pars than usual. *** Seniors will travel! Such was the case on Thursday as 10 of our seniors travelled to the Somerhill Golf Club at Tiverton to join that club's seniors in a day of fun. Our seniors were paired with two of their seniors and were introduced to their game of Dice Scramble Golf. At the end of nine, the top team with a score of two under par was the Tiverton pair of Ron Preszcator and Al Schwichtenberg and our Bill Dauphin and Glenn McMichael. In second spot at one over were Tiverton's Bob LaForge, Tony Gunn, Gary Harrigan and Wingham's Bob Johnston. LaForge had the longest drive, Lorne Seal was closest to the rope, Wayne Graham was closest to the Steelback barrel and closest to the flag on number five was Bill Dauphin. On number nine it was Bill Johnston. *** Despite threatening rain 35 were out for Thursday night golf. Bill Dauphin continued his winning day taking top spot with Terry Powell, Doug Vanderwoude, Lorne Miller and Perry Hauck all tied in second spot. Skins were won by Perry Hauck and Al Godfrey with Doug Reinhart capturing the award for longest putt on number nine. *** Twenty-four were out for Wednesday men's night. Low gross in A flight with a 36 was Zack O'Krafka with Jim Ross the best in B flight with a 41. Low nets in A flight were first, Jason LeRoux and second Trevor Hopf. In the B flight the top two low nets were even better than the A flight as Jim Sanford had a 23 and Kevin Green a 28. Closest to the pin awards went to Joel Riley, Barry Reid and Zack O'Krafka. Skins were won by Dan Campbell, Barry Reid, Trevor Hopf and Zack 0' Krafka. *** It's back to school for all our youth workers. We will miss them. All were very pleasant and personable and did a great job. They all knew how to work and see work to be done. We know all will do well in the future in their chosen careers. And once again it proved the old saying the Wingham course was designed for lefties. I'm sure Lefty Wilf French who designed the course is looking down from above with a smile from ear to ear.
