Local woman receives IFF recognition
of Ethel was the recipient of the 2006
International Flying Farmers' Woman of the Year Award.

member of the Ontario Flying Farmers' as well as the

A local woman recently was
honoured as the recipient of a
prestigious award.
On July 20 at the International
Flying Farmers' award banquet held
in Arizona, Yvonne Martin of Ethel
was named the 2006 IFF Woman of
the year.
The IFF recipient is selected by
the IFF executive committee. Martin
was given a crystal bowl.
Martin was nominated by E. Jane
Farrell of RR1, Kincardine, who is
also a member of the Ontario Flying
Farmers.
Farrell said in her nomination,
"Yvonne is and has been a proud
member of the Flying Farmers. She
is an active participant locally, as
well as internationally, and has been
on several committees within this

Wawanosh Pet Pals was held on
Saturday, July 5. It began at 9 a.m. at
June Robinson's. The club
proceeded to Charlene Schramm's to
see her dog, Sheeba. Charlene told
the club how Sheeba helps bring in
the cows.
The next place the club toured was
the Oudshoorns. Marijke showed the
group her fish and explained how
she set up her aquarium. Jolande
presented her hamsters. She showed
the club all of her cool tunnels for
the hamsters.

promoter with many talents she so

Martin was the Ontario Flying
Farmers' Queen in 1987-88 and then
again in 2000-01. She is the OFF
newsletter editor of Talewinds since
2000.
Within the IFF, Martin has been
actively involved in various
activities. In 1988 she was the Know
Your Radio chairperson. She was the
IFF Duchess in 2001-02.
Martin is part of the IFF royalty
selection committee at IFF

her goat, Lucy. Lucy enjoys

around.

explained how to properly groom
and get a horse ready for a show.
Lastly the club travelled to Maria
Denomme's. Maria presented her cat
Paula. She told the club how Paula

To encourage membership growth
within their local chapters, Martin
has put together various seminars at
IFF conventions and worksops. She
has also assisted other chapter
editors, in regards to the information
and format for their prospective
magazines, and encouraged them to
involve their own members to write
articles.
When Martin heard that she had
won the award she said, "It was a bit
of a surprise, I didn't realize that my
name was submitted."
