But at least Wayne and I have been getting out and about enjoying tremendous barbecues and wonderful company. I would like to send get-well wishes to Jean Plaetzer of Blyth. Jean has been in Stratford hospital for over a week now and is showing some improvement. With lots of grandchildren around to cheer her up on Sunday, husband Lawrence thought she had perked up a bit. I would like to add the best wishes of the entire community to those already received along with a heartfelt get-well soon from all your friends at the Women's Institute throughout the entire Huron West District. My apologies for getting my Cartwrights confused last week. Kelsy Cartwright, of London, is granddaughter of Grace and Jim Cartwright of Auburn (not Erma and Don as stated last week). Kelsy made her way onto the honour roll and received the Language Award, as well as the Citizenship Award. Kelsy celebrates her birthday July 31. Congratulations to Kelsy on her birthday and her great achievements. Pet Pals go touring The third meeting of the Pet Pals was held on Friday, July 14. Members met at June Robinson's at 6:45 p.m. to leave for Higgins. Mary Kate showed the club her snail, Gary, the algae eater in her aquarium and how she set up her aquarium. Meagan and Melissa explained how they took care of their lambs. One of their lambs got pneumonia and they had to treat it with a shot. The club then travelled to Jillian Martin's. Jillian displayed her rabbit Fufu's habitat and described what grooming was necessary for a rabbit. Unfortunately Fufu had gotten out of her cage earlier and could not be found. The group drove to Sarah Steele's to see Sarah's dog, Riley. Riley has mites that makes her lose hair. Sarah explained what medicine Riley had to take to get rid of the mites. Next they travelled to Joscelin Andrew's. Joscelin presented her golden retriever, Max and demonstrated how she groomed him and the tricks he knew. Jessie Walton showed her shih tzu, Rollo. The club then went to the Jefferson home. Maisy and Sophie displayed their dog, Pepper and showed off the tricks she could perform. Reba showed her cat, Cleatus and explained what she fed him. Ellen presented her cat, Darrel and the scratching post she made for him. The fourth meeting of the Continued on page 16 were present then played Categories which was led by Sophie and Ellen Jefferson. The meeting started with the pledge and roll call. Using a sheet, the club matched the names of different parts of a pattern, then did some review questions. The leaders explained that this meeting would be mostly bookwork and sitting down instead of sewing. Seam finishes were the first topic for discussion, followed by interfacing, bias and stretch. Heather Boyle then reviewed the terms used. For the next meeting the members are to bring buttons, hook-and-eye closures and three different kinds of fabric. By Ellen Jefferson The sixth meeting of the 4-H Garden Gals Horticulture Club was held July 24 at 9 a.m. The members caught up their books from the garden tour meetings after the pledge and roll call were taken care of. Following this, the members split into group. Some members had a turn at arranging flowers with advice from June Robinson; others learned about displaying vegetables from Mary Ellen Foran. Sophie Jefferson heard reasons from members who had judged baskets at her station. After the members had completed each of the stations, Mary Ellen FROM AUBURN explained that what they had learned would be useful at the achievement program in Lucknow. The members then reviewed what they had learned by playing Jeopardy with Alex (aka Sophie Jefferson). The meeting was closed with the motto. The achievement program is on Aug. 9 at the Lucknow horticultural tea. All members are to enter at least one item. By Sophie Jefferson On July 26, the St. Augustine Sewers met once again. Before the official beginning of the meeting, members Maisy Jefferson and Jillian Martin received help from Sophie Jefferson with their projects.
