This rare mussel is declining in number and is now protected under the federal Species at Risk Act. In Canada, the Wavyrayed Lampmussel is found in a small portion of the Lake St. Clair delta and in the Ausable, Grand, Thames and Maitland rivers. Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell under pressure Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending July 28 were 1,669 head of cattle, 717 lambs and goats, On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold under pressdre. The choice steers and heifers sold $90 to $95 with sales to $103.50. Second cut sold $85 to $90 with the cows selling $2 to $3 higher. On Thursday the veal sold on a good active trade while the lambs sold under pressure. The sheep sold steady. On Friday calves and yearlings were selling on a steady market. There were 337 steers on offer. Emerson L. By Kristina Drennan The Lucknow Beef Club had its fun day on July 23 at 9:30 a.m. at the farm of Dave Gibson. Many members brought their calves for the day. The morning started off with Kristina Drennan doing the roll call. Then Brent Black informed the members about what was going to be happening for the day. The next meeting was planned for Aug. 20 and information was given about the judging competition in Seaforth on Aug. 15 and the Achievement Day at the Lucknow Fair. The members were also reminded that the leaders would be coming around to see everyone's 4-H calves. Members are to have a sign saying 4-H Project on the pen their 4-H calf is in. He did a demonstration on how to fit and clip a calf. He showed the members all the steps. After the demonstration and ques- tions everyone enjoyed a potluck lunch and hamburgers. After lunch, the 4-H members went into groups with at least one junior member to each group. They picked a calf per group and proceeded to fit the calf using the information that Scott gave them. The senior members worked with the junior members preparing the calf ready to be judged. A junior member had a chance to show the calf they helped to prepare in the ring. Brent Black was asked to be the judge. He judged and gave reasons. He also asked the junior members what they had learned that day. ing 1,053 lbs. selling for an average of $89.75. . Sheep sold $56 to $90. Swine club visits meat market On July 14 at Metzger's Meat in Hensall, the 4-H swine club of Huron County held a meeting. The 4-H members went on a tour and got to see where their hogs would go after they show them in September. The night was finished with the 4- H pledge. Goats sold $31 to $140.
