Court news
Man to be sentenced in Goderich for trafficking
Sentencing will be handed down in
Goderich in August 28 for a man
facing charges of cocaine trafficking.
Facts were presented in Wingham's
court July 13. Aristomenis
Nikitopoulos had entered guilty pleas
in Goderich in March to one count of
possession for the purpose of
trafficking and one count of
trafficking.
Federal Crown Mike Donnelly told
Judge R.G.E. Hunter that on June 15,
2005, a police agent working with
RCMP undercover officers, had
inquired about purchasing cocaine.
The individual he spoke to told him
to call 'Rico' (Nikitopouos) as he was
picking up an order that day for
"regular customers."
The agent met the accused the next
day and in exchange for $4,500 was
given just over three grams of
cocaine, said Donnelly.
Then on July 6 officers made
arrangements for an "immediate"
purchase. A meeting point in
Goderich was established after the
accused had warned that "the feds
were all over."
As Nikitopoulos approached the
officers a surveillance team moved to
intercept. Donnelly said the accused
fell when he tried to run. He threw
the bag, but it was found by the
officers. It contained almost three
ounces of cocaine. They also found
another six grams of crack cocaine on
Nikitopoulos, as well as $1,000.
Donnelly said the street value of
the drugs was $7,000.
CARELESS DRIVING
A Wingham man pled guilty to
careless driving.
Jeffrey Good was arrested Dec. 22
in Wingham after being stopped by
police. Attorney for the Crown John
O'Donnell said Good had been
operating the vehicle in a careless
manner and it was determined that he
had been drinking.
He was fined $500 and is
prohibited from driving for one year.
SUSPENDED SENTENCE
Kerri Heroux-Carpenter of
Wingham was pled guilty to mischief
under $5,000, assault and failing to
comply with a probation order.
O'Donnell said that May 5 the
police had been called to an
apartment building in Central Huron.
The victim said that he and the
accused had argued. She left, and
when he wouldn't let her back in
upon her return she smashed a
window.
The assault occurred in Central
Huron as well. In the course of an
argument the victim had sustained
scratches on the throat. He told police
that Heroux-Carpenter, who had been
ordered to abstain from the
consumption of alcohol, had been
intoxicated at the time.
Defence counsel said the 31-year-
old mother of three was planning to
undergo treatment for drug abuse and
was trying to get her life on track.
She stated that there had been
mitigating factors with regards to the
assault.
Hunter suspended passing of
sentence and placed Heroux-
Carpenter on 12 months' probation.
She is prohibited from owning
weapons for five years.
FAIL TO COMPLY
Danielle McLeod, 19 of RR2,
Clifford must complete 50 hours of
community service for failing to stay
at an approved residence during a
court-imposed curfew.
O'Donnell said that accused had
entered a guilty plea in Walkerton
Feb. 8 for possession of drugs and for
obstructing a police officer. She was
placed on probation for 18 months.
As part of her probation she was to
remain at her residence between the
hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. However,
she left the residence Feb. 23 and
didn't return until Feb. 27.
Duty counsel John Myers called it
a "foolish" act adding that McLeod
now knew her responsibilities from
this point on.
Hunter gave her a suspended
sentence and another nine months'
probation. She has eight months to
complete the community service.
STOLEN PROPERTY
A Wingham man pled guilty to
possession of stolen property under
$5,000.
A man told police April 25 that his
bike had been stolen then later
reported seeing it outside a residence
It had been painted and no serial
numbers were visible.
Michael Lennox-Moore was given
a conditional discharge and placed on
12 months probation.
Preparing for disaster

services, and recording secretary, Dana Sture. Also participating in the emergency planning
