Obituaries
• SARAH AILEEN MANN
On Tuesday, July 4, 2006, Sarah
Aileen Mann, aged 23 years, of
Lucknow, died suddenly as a result
of a car accident.
Sarah was born on Oct. 18, 1982
to Stephen and Lynne Mann. She
was the elder of two children.
She attended Lucknow Central
Public School where she excelled in
track and field, music, and public
speaking. She was also involved in
many community activities such as
Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders,
Scottish dancing, ringette, hockey
and baseball. She attended F.E.
Madill Secondary School in
Wingham where she was involved
with the Coffee House for Cancer.
drama productions and the yearbook
class. It was this experience with the
yearbook where Sarah discovered
her passion for • writing and
photography, which led her to
choose a career in journalism.
Sarah also loved going camping,
going to concerts and spending time
with her family and friends. She was
especially passionate about
supporting local bands from the
surrounding rural area.
Sarah studied journalism at
Humber College in Toronto where
she wrote for the school newspaper
and magazine.
While at college, she was an intern
at Realscreen magazine that covers
documentary films. Sarah also had
many summer jobs, including
working for the Wingham and
District Community Living
Association, The Citizen newspaper
as a reporter/ photographer, and as a
baker at the grocery store in
Brussels.
After graduating from Humber
College with honours, Sarah started
working at The Goderich Signal-
Star newspaper as a reporter. Sarah
enjoyed her time there, made many
new friends and covered a wide
range of stories, including the Red
Hat Ladies, wind turbines, The
Ballad of Stompin' Tom and
Goderich town council.
Sarah is survived by her parents,
Steve and Lynne Mann and sister
Jessica Mann. She is also survived
by her maternal grandparents,
Gordon and Madeline Anderson, and
many aunts, uncles and cousins of
the Mann and Anderson families.
Sarah will also be lovingly
remembered by her many friends,
especially her little buddy Mitchell
McKay.
She is predeceased by her paternal
grandparents, Eldon and Aileen
Mann, and Uncle Stewart Mann.
Sarah's visitation was held on
Friday, July 7, from 1 - 4 and 7 - 9
p.m. from MacKenzie and McCreath
Funeral Home, Lucknow.
The Celebration of Life ceremony
was conducted from the Lucknow
Community Centre on Saturday, '
July 8 at 2 p.m. with a one hour
visitation prior to the service. Vicky
Morrison officiated. -
Music was provided by Ashley
Anderson, Melina Hussey, Shaun
Henry, Joshua Gropp and Perish.
Personal eulogies were given by
Alecia Anderson, Kristie Anderson,
Lindsay Anderson, Ashley
Anderson, Josh Anderson, Angela
Dolbear, Julie Mann, Kent Mann,
Jessica Mann, Shawn Loughlin,
Danielle Stanley, Joshua Gropp,
Terry Rathwell and Suzanne
Anderson.
Kristie Anderson and Lindsay
Anderson created a slideshow that
displayed pictures from Sarah's life
and her own photography.
A representative from Humber
College announced the formation of
the" Sarah Mann Award that will be
presented to the student who has
strong reporting skills, a willingness
to accept all assignments and a smile
and team spirit -that light up the
newsroom.
Flowerbearers were Danielle
Stanley, Alecia Anderson, Ashley
Anderson, Josh Anderson, Kristie
Anderson, Lindsay Anderson,
Angela Dolbear, Julie Mann and
Kent Mann.
Interment of Sarah's cremated
remains took place following the
service. During the recessional and
the interment at Greenhill Cemetery,
bagpipes were played by Nolda
Scott, drums by Keith Bowker and
Jim McArthur.
A private ceremony for family and
friends was held out at the Anderson
family farm in Ashfield Twp. A red
maple tree was planted in Sarah's
memory on her grandparents' front
lawn.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer
Society, the Alzheimer Society, the
Wingham and District Community
Living Association, and the Sarah
Mann Award were appreciated as
expressions of sympathy.
A butterfly lights beside us like a
sunbeam and for a brief moment, its
glory and beauty belongs to our
world. But then,it flies off again and
though we wish it could have stayed,
we feel so lucky to have seen it.
