Deserving teacher receives recognition

honoured by the Avon Maitland District School Board
recently after being nominated by her peers for special

Cheryl Cronin, a teacher at Blyth
Public School for many years, has
been granted the Mentor/Leadership
Award by the Avon Maitland
teachers local of the Elementary
Teachers Federation of Ontario.
Cronin was nominated for the
award by her peers and principal
Jane Morton at Blyth Public School.
The nomination is based on her
ability to support new teachers, her
organizing of the Peacemakers for
the playground, and her general
leadership ability.
In making the award, the awards
committee stated that it "Felt that
you (Cronin) needed to read the
letters your colleagues took the time
to read... What a pleasure it was for
us to read these."
As the special education resource
A post-mortem was scheduled

Centre for a Kitchener man found
dead in a Stanley Twp. residence.

54, of 52 Moore Ave. The death was
being treated as suspicious.

Act came into force on May
31, smoking is prohibited at

"(Cronin) provides excellent
leadership and mentorship to
everyone in the building. She makes
time in her schedule to observe
students and then meets with
colleagues to discuss strategies and
resources. She is always able to
come up with one more strategy or
instructional technique to try and is
able to quickly hand teachers the
resources they need," wrote
Morton.
Blyth teacher Teri Munn , wrote
about Cronin, "She is a fabulous
mentor to all teachers no matter how
many years of experience they have.
She goes above and beyond to
ensure that students reach their full

In discussing Cronin's role in
developing the Peacemakers, teacher
Lisa Cairncross wrote, "(Cronin)
should be considered for the
leadership award because of the
leadership skills she teaches the
students at the school. She has
organized and promoted a successful
Peacemaker program at Blyth public
school.... After she has chosen her
team of Peacemakers, she conducts
several sessions which focus on
conflict resolution and positive
leadership. The students are then
asked to take these skills and apply
them on the schoolyard."
