Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Veal sells $2 to $3 higher on Thursday Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending June 23 were 2,085 head of cattle, 901 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. The choice steers and heifers sold $96, to $100 with sales to $114.75. Second cut sold $92 to $96. Cows sold $2 higher. On Thursday the veal sold $2 to $3 higher. The lambs sold on a strong trade. On Friday calves and yearlings sold on a strong active market. There were 402 steers on offer. Two steers consigned by Fanholm Farms, Fullarton, averaging 1,247 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers for $114.75. Nine steers consigned by Walter Riddel, Granton, averaging 1,367 lbs. sold for an average of $99(66 with two limousin steers aver- aging 1,362 lbs. selling for $104.25 to Norwich Packers. Fourteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,487 lbs. sold for an average of $100.85 with four limousin steers averaging 1,472 lbs. sold to Dominion Meat Packers for $103. Seven steers consigned by Albert W. Frey, Palmerston, averaging 1,424 lbs. sold for an average of $99.71 with three charolais steers sold to Dominion Meat Packers for $102.50. Three limousin steers consigned by Warren and Marion Becker, Ayton, averaging 1,501 lbs. sold for an aver- age of $99.08 with one limousin weighing 1,485 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $100.75. Sixteen steers consigned by Murray By Crystal Blake The second meeting for the Brussels Belgrave Beef Club was on May 20 at 7 p.m. It started at the Belgrave Trout Farm owned by David and Gloria Hedley. Mr. Hedley took us for a tour of his fishing ponds and explained how different areas were used. Members were amazed by the number of fish he produces each year. They learned how his farm was managed and got a taste of rainbow trout which was wonderfully cooked by Mrs. Hedley. By Kristina Drennan The third meeting for the Lucknow Beef Club was hosted by Doug and Sue Marriott on June 17 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by leader Rosemary Foran. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge followed by Kristina Drennan doing the roll call. 'In the business part of the meeting Fun Day was discussed. It's going to be held on July 23 starting at 9 a.m. at the farm of Emily and Abby Gibson. Members are to bring their 4-H calf and a door prize. Rob Marriott introduced the guest speaker Rose Ann McConnel. She had three members set up three 4-H calves. She told and showed the members many things about what to do and what not to do while showing their calf in the show ring. She•said it's important that the exhibitor as well as the 4-H calf needs to be ready for the show ring. Rose Ann discussed how to set up the calf's feet and why they should keep the calf's head up in the show ring. Rose Ann told the members that Shiell, Wingham, averaging 1,433 lbs. sold for an average of $96.87 with sales to $99. Thirteen steers consigned by Don Shiell,, Wingham, averaging 1,385 lbs. sold for an average of $96.91 with sales to $99.75. One limousin steer consigned by Fred Bieman, Ayton, weighing 1,345 lbs.' sold to Norwich Packers for $99.25. Thirty- six steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira, averaging 1,516 lbs. sold for an average of $92.60 with sales to $99. There were 250 heifers on offer. Three heifers consigned by John Wiersma, Blyth, averaging 1,271 lbs. sold for an average of $92.39 with a limousin heifer weighing 1,360 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers for $102.75. Six heifers consigned by Gerald Becker, Ayton, averaging 1,052 lbs. averaging $94.86 with sales to $99.75. Twenty heifers consigned by Maynard B. Martin, Drayton, averag- ing 1,294 lbs. sold for an average of $98.75 with sales to $99. Eleven heifers consigned by Paul When we left there we went to Howatt's feedlot. We got a guided tour of the farm. We learned how he finished his cattle with a special feed ration. And the meeting was ended with a taste of their home-cooked hamburgers. We enjoyed both tours and learned lots of interesting facts from both the farmers. The next meeting is planned to take place at Cory Rintoul's place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 22. when they are in the show ring they need to always be showing their calf, to leave a safe distance between the calves, be ready to answer the ques- tions from the judge and most of all appear confident while in the ring.
