Sports U-13 Lightning fells Goderich Blyth Lightnings U-13 team travelled to the Goderich Ag Park on June 22 to play an exciting game of soccer against Goderich I.. Players, parents and the coach waited around Goderich for an hour and a half as there was a scheduling error and the game was to start at 8:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. Blyth definitely felt it was worth the wait as they played a very strong game that evening. Lucas Frawley did a great job covering the net for Blyth during the 'first half of the game. Blyth got on the scoreboard after the first few minutes of the game when Alex Raynard kicked the ball up the field to Brent Drost who chipped the ball into the net. Drost scored again after gaining control of the ball and working his way up the field to get the ball into the Goderich net. Goderich earned the next goal ti after nicely kicking the ball into the top shelf of the net. Brendon Boven earned the next assist as he made a great pass to teammate Drost who chipped in another goal for Blyth. Goderichyas able to get the ball into the b6ttom corner of the net before the half-time whistle blew. Blyth was ahead by one goal at halftime with a score of 3-2. The lights came on to light up the field for the players for the second half of the game. Teammates Raynard and Drost worked together again to get .on the scoreboard for another goal for Blyth. Goderich came back to score their only goal for this half on Blyth's keen keeper Greg Roetcisoender. Blyth's Katie Packer earned the next assist for Blyth. She made a nice direct pass to Drost, who was having a super game and got the ball around several Goderich players to score his fifth goal. Drost was knocked down in the Goderich crease, so Boven took the penalty kick and drove the ball into the net for the final goal of the game. Coach Lauren Bouman was very pleased with her team's effort and performance during the game. "All Lightning players were working very hard to play their positions and make accurate passes during the game," she said. The final score was 6-3.
