Moments of pure pleasure in summer. Don't you wish you were a kid again ready to spend a summer of your dreams? The Ontario Volunteer Awards night was held recently in Owen Sound with Carol Mitchell and Bill Murdoch the area MPPs presenting the well-deserved recognition to our local folks. By submitting names and reasons local groups gave thanks for the many hours of committed volunteerism. Forty-year, pins for the Women's Institute were given to Leona Armstrong, Yvonne Knight, Doris McCall and Marie McCutcheon for their commitment to volunteer service. Town and Country Support Services recognized the many hours given by Alma Watson in 15 years and Leona Armstrong with 10 years of volunteer service to the organization. Alice Brothers was thanked for her 15 years of volunteer service to the organization. Alice Brothers was thanked for her 15 years of volunteer time to the Wingham and District Adult Day Centre. Alma, Doris and Alice were unable to attend. These women were thanked on behalf of specific groups for the Ontario Awards, but it doesn't take long to realize that many other groups in our community were also made better by these women. You are our heroes by setting a fine example of time, energy and interest. well spent. Congratulations Alma, Alice, Doris, Leona, Marie and Yvonne. Thank you Jim and Lois for opening Cinnamon Jim's on our main street. One of our beautiful old buildings brought back to its glory days by much interest and many, many, many hours of labour. It was a joy to see the place hopping on Saturday as the grand opening took By Jo-Ann McDonald The new Brussels Legion executive committee met for the first time on Tuesday evening, June 20. President Jo-Ann McDonald welcomed everyone to the start of a new, and hopefully successful, year for Branch 218. She welcomed new treasurer Sharen Rainville to the Branch and executive. The Friday night supper was sweet and sour meatballs. This week is roast beef. It will be the last supper for the summer and we will hope to see everyone back in the fall. The Cadets held a teen dance on Saturday night but had a very small crowd. Comrade Donald Dunbar is in hospital as I write and our prayers are with him and his family at this time. place. Food, fun, music and laughter filled the space as the community came to see the spot and thank them for preserving one of the buildings to offer a needed service. Wouldn't it be nice if we could figure out what we could support in Brussels and more of the buildings could be brought back to life like the Rapsons at Solace and the Lees at Cinnamon Jim's have done so well?. All ideas are worth considering, but each one needs full community support. Blyth Festival opens this week with another season of interesting , looking plays. Be sure to get your tickets so you'll know what everyone is talking about. It's going to be a tough call to name the favourite. They all look good. Get out the camping gear the kids are ready to go now. Bye now, Betty G.W. • The fish fry crew was off to Mitchell to cook for our biggest fry yet. They prepared and cooked fish for 670 at the 50th reunion of the new Mitchell High School. A little more organizing but it went very well. Doing a great job for the Branch were Rick, Jo-Ann, Scott, Kelly McDonald, Adam Jaroz, Jason and LeeAnn Konarski, Judy Lee, Glenn Bridge, Willis Knight, Mabel, Sharon, Lisa Glanville and Anne Pelletier. The Brussels Cemetery decoration service was held on Sunday on a lovely sunny day. The beautiful flowers adorned the area and Doug Murray had the cemetery looking its best, as usual.
