After seeing her Nana, Papa and father go through cancer,
10-year-old Annie Prout made a decision two years ago to
grow her hair and donate it to Locks for Love. Last week,
her Nana, Barb Nichol, right, took the first few snips under
the guidance of hairstylist Janice Machan of Brussels.

The last day of school is here.
Nine weeks of relative leisure. Days
of no schedules. Time to do the fun
and non-productive things of life.
Moments of pure pleasure in
summer. Don't you wish you were a
kid again ready to spend a summer
of your dreams?
The Ontario Volunteer Awards
night was held recently in Owen
Sound with Carol Mitchell and Bill
Murdoch the area MPPs presenting
the well-deserved recognition to our
local folks. By submitting names
and reasons local groups gave thanks
for the many hours of committed
volunteerism.
Forty-year, pins for the Women's
Institute were given to Leona
Armstrong, Yvonne Knight, Doris
McCall and Marie McCutcheon for
their commitment to volunteer
service. Town and Country Support
Services recognized the many hours
given by Alma Watson in 15 years
and Leona Armstrong with 10 years
of volunteer service to the
organization.
Alice Brothers was thanked for her
15 years of volunteer service to the
organization.
Alice Brothers was thanked for her
15 years of volunteer time to the
Wingham and District Adult Day
Centre. Alma, Doris and Alice were
unable to attend. These women were
thanked on behalf of specific groups
for the Ontario Awards, but it doesn't
take long to realize that many other
groups in our community were also
made better by these women. You
are our heroes by setting a fine
example of time, energy and interest.
well spent.
Congratulations Alma, Alice,
Doris, Leona, Marie and Yvonne.
Thank you Jim and Lois for
opening Cinnamon Jim's on our
main street. One of our beautiful old
buildings brought back to its glory
days by much interest and many,
many, many hours of labour. It was a
joy to see the place hopping on
Saturday as the grand opening took

The new Brussels Legion
executive committee met for the first
time on Tuesday evening, June 20.
President Jo-Ann McDonald
welcomed everyone to the start of a
new, and hopefully successful, year
for Branch 218. She welcomed new
treasurer Sharen Rainville to the
Branch and executive.
The Friday night supper was sweet
and sour meatballs. This week is
roast beef. It will be the last supper
for the summer and we will hope to
see everyone back in the fall.
The Cadets held a teen dance on
Saturday night but had a very small
crowd.
Comrade Donald Dunbar is in
hospital as I write and our prayers
are with him and his family at this
time.
place. Food, fun, music and laughter
filled the space as the community
came to see the spot and thank them
for preserving one of the buildings to
offer a needed service.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could
figure out what we could support in
Brussels and more of the buildings
could be brought back to life like the
Rapsons at Solace and the Lees at
Cinnamon Jim's have done so well?.
All ideas are worth considering, but
each one needs full community
support.
Blyth Festival opens this week
with another season of interesting ,
looking plays. Be sure to get your
tickets so you'll know what
everyone is talking about. It's going
to be a tough call to name the
favourite. They all look good.
Get out the camping gear the kids
are ready to go now.
Bye now, Betty G.W. •
The fish fry crew was off to
Mitchell to cook for our biggest fry
yet. They prepared and cooked fish
for 670 at the 50th reunion of the
new Mitchell High School. A little
more organizing but it went very
well.
Doing a great job for the Branch
were Rick, Jo-Ann, Scott, Kelly
McDonald, Adam Jaroz, Jason and
LeeAnn Konarski, Judy Lee, Glenn
Bridge, Willis Knight, Mabel,
Sharon, Lisa Glanville and Anne
Pelletier.
The Brussels Cemetery decoration
service was held on Sunday on a
lovely sunny day. The beautiful
flowers adorned the area and Doug
Murray had the cemetery looking its
best, as usual.
Padre Tom Wilson led the service
