The golfing channel will be
coming to Huron East in August
2008 if golf tournament manager
Maureen Agar and Seaforth Golf
Course manager Carolanne Doig are
successful in their mission.
At the June 6 meeting of Huron
East council, the women shared
their dream of having Seaforth
become a regular stop on the
Canadian Golf Tour, beginning in
the third week of August 2008.
Doig stated that the tour officials,
including deputy commissioner Dan
Halderson, co-designer of the
improvements to Seaforth Golf
Course, who visited Seaforth the
Huron County residents will have
the opportunity to participate in
planning how to protect their water
supply.
The Ausable Bayfield and
Maitland Valley Partnership is
developing a working group to
provide local knowledge and
information regarding source water
protection issues, local feedback in
the planning process, and
recommendations about how
implementation strategies should be
introduced.
Municipal governments are asked
to nominate potential participants by
Aug. 15. Nominees will be invited
to an information meeting on Sept.
6, but the working group is not
expected to begin its duties until
January.
The partnership wants the working
group membership to include
agricultural organizations,
commodity groups, business
organizations, educational,
governmental agencies,
environmental groups, realtor and
contractor associations, property
owner associations, public health
agencies, municipal, provincial and
federal staff, and other stakeholders.
Selection criteria include
knowledge of the watershed and
knowledge of relevant issues. The
term of the committee will be 18
months, and members will be
expected to attend regularly, to be
willing to increase their knowledge
about ground water issues, to work
cooperatively with others, and to
share the knowledge they obtain
with others. There will be no
reimbursement for work on this
committee.

previous weekend were impressed
with the local golf course and
supportive of the concept of holding
a tournament in Seaforth.
"Preparing for the tournament will
require only minor modifications to
the course," Doig said.
, Tournaments last for six days and
bring between 2,000 and 6,000
spectators daily, in addition to the
144 players with their caddies and
tour officials.
The golfing channel, which has a
viewership of 75 million, visits
tournament locations.
"This will provide a tremendous
opportunity to showcase East Huron,
as well as bring in significant tourist
revenues," Doig stated.

the event could become an annual
event.
Doig said Monday that the women
have chosen the Huron Perth
Hospital's PACF fund as their
charity, and are hoping that local
businesses will work together and
donate the purse.
In order to encourage fans to come
and watch the players, the women
are planning that entrance to the
course will be by donation rather
than ticket sales.
