At its June 6 meeting. Huron East
council approYed the payment of
accounts triple the size of its usual
monthly amount.
The financial report in the agenda
showed that amount was misleading,
since there were four transfers of -
$95,000 representing money from
the Brussels Trust Fund Investment
into other investments which would
provide a higher rate of return.

Council refused to approve the
amendments to -the comprehensive
toning bylaw and official plan
amendment, despite an item-by-item
discussion of public comments and-
strong urging from administrative
staff.
The consensus was that the matter
was too complex and important to be
rushed through. This decision will
defer further public meetings on the
zoning bylaw until fall. -
***
Council approved the signing of
an aareement with E.D. Smith &
Sons LP, the purchaser of Seaforth
Creaniery Inc., permitting it the
same right to discharge effluence
into the Seaforth sewage lagoon
system as the creamery had. The
agreement permits the company to
discharge effluent and provides for a
reimbursement to the municipality
based on the volume of the
discharge.

With minimal discussion, council
approved a motion by councillor
Frank Stretton and seconded by
councillor Lou Maloney to ensure
that crossing guards would be
available for the new break times
required by schools transferring to

North Huron council gave its
support for a new pumper for the
Wingham and Area Fire Department.
Councillor Archie MacGowan
presented information at the June S
meeting saying that .a new pumpei
purchased off the floor at the Ontario
Association of Fire Chiefs show
would offer substantial savings.
"Engines are going to jump at least
s 10.000 because of the new emission
standards. Yob are looking Utt
$350,000 to $375,000 for a new
truck. The chief says that if you go to
the show with a cheque, you can
drive one home for about $60.000
$70.000 less than that.-
A meeting had been called for June
I 2 to discuss this further, MacGowan
told council. Only $50,000 had been
put ays.i. for the truck. North

Council approved the purchase of
22 acres of land for its industrial
park. This approval was despite
opposition from the county planning
department.
***
Council deliberated long and hard
about a request fc,,r rezoning to
permit a bottle recycling depot at the
location of the old bowling alley.
Approving the request would require
a -zoning bylaw change, which
Council was hesitant to approve.
Councillors were in favour of
having a bottling recycling -depot in
Seaforth, but. unwilling to modify
the bowling alley's current zoning.
The issue was sent hack to staff for
further consideration.
