WALTON
By Jo-Ann
McDonald

It was a great to see Brenda Raven
(Bewley) home for a visit last week
from Airdrie. Alberta. She spent a
couple of days with mother Jean
Bewley, then sister Mary Baker from
Bolton joined, them.
The girls invited seven
Brussels/Walton ladies to join Jean
and them in a pre-celebration dinner
of Jean's 80th birthday which is in
December. The ladies travelled to
Peggoty's in Seaforth to enjoy a
delicious meal and social time
together.
Attending the get-together were
Leona McDonald, Yvonne Knight,
Cathrine Campbell, Dona Knight,
Mary Davidson, Elunid McNair,
Mary Huether and- Jean, Mary and
Brenda.
The Bewley women then spent the
rest of the week off at Mary Baker's
cottage up north. Brenda returned to
Alberta when the week was up.
The Fritz barn on Walton road got
its cleanup last week, It looks much
better and doesn't have that sad look
of tire.
Graeme and Helen Craig were the
hosts for an appreciation dinner and
evening for the workers of Elections
Canada. They enjoyed a barbecue
with many bringing potluck salads to
have a great meal. There were near 60
in attendance to enjoy the evening
and swimming at the Craigs' farm.
The Godkin women attended a
Piker race series event in Dorchester
on the weekend. Running apparently
runs in the family as Lynn. Heather
and Laura all participated in various
distance runs.
The Lee farm was a busy spot .on
the weekend as they hosted a
qualifying series race sponsored by
Kawasaki. There were over 1,160
entries in the event, the largest to
date.
Participating from this area were
Bruce, Mitchell and Lucas Godkin,
Scott and Brent Godkin, Jamie
Nathan Prior, Greg Bowers
and Chris Lee.
The weather was cool and windy
and the track was well-watered to
keep down the dust. Unfortunately,
mishaps will happen and medical
attention was called in several times.
Now it's preparation time for the
Transcan in August, so racing is over
in Walton until then.
A cleanup day is being held outside
the Walton Church this Saturday.
1 here are some bigger jobs like
trimming trees, removal of the 'old
trcehouse and old straw from the
barn. Some men with tools, loaders,
aeons would be appreciated to help
opt at 9 a.m. this Saturday.
It was party time to celebrate Jason
• Konarski's 30th birthday on Sunday.
\ surprise party was arranged by
I.ceAnn to celebrate the occasion.
itiests met at Cranhrook Golf Course
and when Jason arrived he had no
idea what was going on and why they
11 Oft there.
'here were about 1'6 golfers for the
afternoon and nearly 20 for supper
hack at Rick and Brenda Konarskis'.
Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky's final
service for the Walton Bluevale
pastoral charge was witnessed by an
almost full sanctuary at the
combined service at Duff's United
Church recently.
Joan's theme for the service and
reflection was Bread for the Journey
and the service was opened with
Bread for the Journey introit. The
service was interlaced with many
special musical numbers, reflections
by Joan and her family, as well as
by members of the two
congregations.
Joan and Brian's family were a
very special part of the service with
daughter Jennifer singing Long
Before the Night and I Have Called
You by Your Name with her husband
Chad Spaulding. Laura Black
presented the scripture readings and
Jeffrey Black read a letter of
appreciation to the congregation.
Brian Black sang The Lords Prayer.
The sacrament of communion was
served by some of the young people.
Rev. Joan has counselled through
confirmation class in the five years
that she has been in Walton
FROM WALTON
Brewers

Wroxeter
The Walton Brewers travelled to
face off with Wroxeter for the third
time in seven days.
It was the rubber match and
Walton defeated them in a close
game by a score of 8-7.
Steve Leonhardt pitched five
strong innings with Scott Leonhardt
coming in relief for the last two
innings.
Blaine Marks was hot on the bat
going three for four. Scott
McDonald was two for four at the
plate hitting the game winning
homerun scoring two in the top of
the seventh.
The Walton Indians faced the
Winthrop Young Guns and were
defeated by a score of 9-16.
The Walton Wonders played the
Chicksters on Thursday night
slopitch.
Walton took an early lead with six
straight hits and scoring six.
It was a good game with
the Chicksters having a strong
fifth inning scoring six runs as
well.
Strong batters for Walton were
LeeAnn Konarski, Sandra Josling
and Nancy Clarke.
The final score was 21-12
for Walton against a good fun
team.
Heads up
Swimming lessons began at the Brussels pool this week. Though temperatures were cool the
weather didn't deter this eager level three group on the first day. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Duffs bids farewell to minister
Bluevale. Assisting were Jeff Black.
Andrew McDonald, David Pethick,
David Garniss, Thomas Johnston,
Matthew Underwood, Jory Willits
and Mark Willits.
The Bluevale children's choir sang
Faith, Hope and Charity with
director Helen Keith. The combined
Walton/Bluevale choirs sang
Communion Prayer.
A special marking — the end of the
pastoral relationship reading was
held with Marie McGavin- and
Shirley Nicholson assisting.
The presentation of symbols was
assisted by Matthew Campbell,
Michael Craig, Doug Garniss,
Shirley Garniss, Allison Underwood
and Gloria Wilbee.
The symbols included a Bible,
water, towel and basin, bread and
cup as the symbols of our shared
ministry.
Following the reading a gift was
presented to Rev. Joan. A lovely
portrait of the Walton United Church
done in pencil by artist Ulysse
Ringennberg of Walton was given to
Joan and her family.
The bulletin for this special
service was designed and drawn by
Bethlny Black. It featured a wheat
field at the side of the road. Two
people and a dog followed the road
into the sunset; a symbol of day's
service Bread for the Journey.
It was a wonderful and emotional
service for both the Black family
and th%congregation. Best wishes
go to Joan as she continues her life's
journey in a new direction and good
luck to her and her family for the
future.
A wonderful time of fellowship
followed the completion of the
service with a barbecue of
hamburgers and hot dogs by Steve
Dennis and Gord Pryce.
