The drama presentation was on solving conflicts with forgiveness and the finale was a dance of celebration. (Vicky Bremner photo) Seaforth doctor guest speaker at Diabetic Project meeting The last meeting before summer for the Brussels, Morris and Grey Diabetic Group was held at Huronlea. Nelva Scott opened the meeting with a story of two little boys. The guest speaker for the evening was Dr. Heather Percival from the Seaforth Medical Clinic. The first part of her presentation was on prevention health tests for women mainly between 50 and 70 years of age. The tests include a pap test for cervical cancer, mammograms for breast cancer, a smear test for bowel cancer and a bone density test. Diabetics have five complications that they try to prevent by keeping blood sugars under control and by seeing physicians on a regular basis. The problems are big blood vessels (heart and head/stroke), little blood vessels (hands and feet), eyes, kidneys and nerve damage. Dr. Percival indicated that new medications are being introduced yearly. There are also new ways to treat diabetes in the testing stages now such as an insulin puffer in combination with a patch. And, at sometime down the road, and not in too distant future, diabetes will be treated without any needles. Dr. Percival gave the group time for an open question period as well as taking individual questions. Judy Hahn thanked Dr. Percival for her informative presentation. The lunch committee served strawberries and angel food cake while Mrs. Scott conducted a short business meeting.
