Minister ii asks for response to 'Sprt
In the weeks. following Christ's
resurrection, the confused and
fearful disciples were essentially in
hiding. Gathered together for the
celebration of the Jewish feast of
Pentecost, they were assailed by a
great noise like a wind and tongues
of flame.
This visit by the Holy Spirit was a
wonderful but - frightening
experience. Suddenly they each
spoke a different language and could
converse with the many strangers in
the town for the feast.
This was the birth of the Christian
church. The disciples could not have
been prepared for the event but now
knew they must be about their
mission to preach to the world. That
same Spirit is alive today and
working in all of us.
Rev. Pat Cook asked the
congregation at Londesborough
United Church on Sunday, June 4
how they respond to the Spirit's
message. Within the Londesborough
church she noted are many groups
whose activities demonstrate God's
service, such as the Sunday school,
United Church Women. Outreach
Group and Songfest.
Lives write new pages in God's
word each and every day as people
fulfill God's will for them in this
world.
Rev. Cook reminded those
gathered that morning that they are
not alone for God is always there to
guide and care for them.
The supporting scripture passages
for the message were John 16: 5-7:
Atts 2: 1-8, 12-21 and the
responsive psalm, Psalm 104.
During their time at the- front with
Rev. Pat, the senior Sunday school
pupils were quizzed about playing
hide and .seek. However she
reminded them that God always
knows where they are. When God
says come to the communion table,
it is like the expression Home Free
in hide, and seek.
During communion Christians are
remembering all of God's grace,
love and caring.
Assisting Rev. Cook with the
sacrament of holy communion were
Brenda Konarski, Bernice Norman,
Helen Dale, Laura Scott, Betty
Archambault and Ed Salverda.
The Londesborough congregation
welcomed into their community of
faith from her home church in
Arthur, Kim Hunking.
The senior choir shared a gift of
music singing I Walk with His Hand
in Mine.
Ben and Crystal (Whyte) Driscoll
thanked the '12 members of the
congregation for their help with
stone picking for the plot of the
Foodgrains Project. They
appreciated all the. efforts towards
the project despite the heat that
particular day.
The youth group is invited to a
sleepover at the Whyte family cabin
this coming weekend. Drop off is
_anytime after school on Friday, June
9 and pickup time is I p.m. the
following day. There is a small cost
of $5. For more details contact
Crystal Whyte. .
The Sunday school extends an
invitation to attend their annual
promotion and awards service this
coming Sunday, June I I. Puppeteer
Jackie Cook will deliver the
message. A barbecue will follow the
service.
Following the service on June 4,
congregants gathered downstairs for
an old-fashioned strawberry social.
Musical entertainment was offered
by Ken Scott and the ladies choir.
In the past couple of years, the
quilters had been quietly working on
a surprise gift for Rev. Cook in
appreciation of her ministry to the
congregation and in the community.
This_ hand-embroidered and quilted
tribute representing the contribution
of many ladies was presented to Rev.
Cook during the social time. FROV LONDESBORO

Heard at church was this bit of
news regarding Margaret Good.
Over the weekend she moved from
Hensall to Huronview.
She is now closer for villagers to
visit and keep her updated of village
news.
Of what value is a dandelion?
Because I would not mind finding
that name on the endangered
species list. The issue of to spray or
not to spray -may be a non-issue
without dandelions, No matter how
hard one tries to rid a lawn of this
weed, every spring there are those
yellow things popping up. Bad
enough that they hide at the sound
of a lawn mower, but those stems
are just as unsightly for a couple of
weeks.
Their only redeeming attribute is-
the warm fuzzy feeling mothers get
when a small hand holds out a
bright yellow collection.
Everyone at times finds life just
too busy, too overwhelming with
things that one thinks need to be
done or that we think we should do.
The past few weeks seem to have
been that way for our house.
However, life can bring one back
to earth in the subtlest of ways. _
Recently, on yet another trip to.
town with a list of errands and on a
hot day. I chose to drive with the
windows down. Suddenly my car
Was filled with the scent of lilacs
trorn a row of bushes along the
roadside. What a treat for the senses
that was.
Trying to get the gardens in order
one evening nature again brought a
surprise. A large flock of geese
heading north flew directly
overhead ski low that the sound of
their wings drowned out their
honking.
The delight of a two-year-old in a
newly-hung swing also ranks high
as one of those "Take time to smell
the roses • along the way"
happenings.
