Or submit a score sheet and we will do the rest. Deadline for each week is Monday at 2 pm Also, we will be looking for team pictures for our annual summer sports edition. These can be dropped in at the office any time. Moving on it The Blyth U-13 Lightning hosted the Clinton team on Thursday night. The visitors whitewashed their hosts by a score of 6-0. Sports Blyth U-11 Thunder celebrates first victory The Blyth Thunder U-11 soccer team raced onto the Sparling field on May 30 to play a game against the Brussels soccer team. Jean Paul VanDorp scored the first goal of the game to get Blyth on the scoreboard. The assist for this goal came from Christina Eckert and Kathryn Peach. J.P. VanDorp scored his next goal as he advanced the ball towards the Brussels net on a breakaway. Trystan Weber and Jessica Tyler earned the assist on VanDorp's third goal of the Wow! The ladies Tuesday golf and luncheon at at the Wingham golf course saw no less than 45 on hand. Due to an accident on the 401 the guest speaker from the winery was unable to make the meeting for an evening of wine tasting. However the girls report a great meeting.. Five teams of- four had a great time with a very competitive scramble. When the last ball hit the bottom of the final cup the winners, were the foursome made up of Carol Clark, Mary ShaW, Mary Houghton and Carolyn Schofield with a score of 39. I . understand all participants received a prize, a brand new pink ball. *** Early morning rain and a weather forecast of a threatening storm cut attendance at Senior Wednesday morning golf with only 12 on hand. First prize went to Jim Beattie with Bill Deany in second spot and Bill Johnston gaining third prize. *** game. Brussels had a hand ball in the crease, so Peach took the penalty shot and scored Thunder's fourth goal of the game. Leendert VanDorp did a great job covering the net for Blyth making several great saves for his team. Brussels was able to get one goal past him during the first half. Blyth was ahead 4 - 1 at halftime. In the second half of the game, L. VanDorp was first to score for Thunder, after taking a penalty kick Oa Saturday, May 27 four members represented the Wingham Legion in the . Legion Zone Tournament held at the Black Horse Golf Club near Kincardine. The team of Terry Powell and Don Edgar came through in -top spot winning the trophy with Powell having an 18-hole score of 76 — the best score of the day. In the seniors division Doug Neil and Ed Daer 'ended up in second spot. Both teams advance to the Legion District tourney to be held at the Sunset Golf Club in Goderich on July 8. *** Wednesday Men's night was steak night and four-man scramble with 36 on hand. Teams were selected by random draw. The team anchored by the boys from the pro shop, Joel Riley and Mark Hackett, and the addition of Dean Tiffin and Eric Hopf, came in with a 31 for the low gross. Second low gross went to the team of Roger Keay, Don Rae. Dan McBurrtey and Dennis Knox with a score of 32. First low net went to when Brussels had another hand ball in their crease. He scored again on a breakaway. Blyth was able to score again after Megan Hoggart kicked the ball up the soccer field, Christina Eckert took control of the ball and scored her first goal of the season. Halfback, Julia Tyler earned the assist on the last goal of the game, as L. VanDorp scored on Brussels. J.P. VanDorp made some great saves covering the Thunder's net and didn't allow Brussels to score during the second half. The final score was the team of Mark Foxton, Zack 0' Krafka, Bill Dauphin and Warren Inglis. Second low net went to the foursome of Rob Gallaher, Gerry Edwards, Jim Inwood, and Barry Reid. Despite a bit of rain and. the threat of a storm, a good time was had by all topped off with great steaks. *** Buff's Thursday night crew hit a new high with 30 golfers, including four first-timers. Terry Powell and Rob Gallaher tied for top spot with 41s. John Rozendal picked up the award for the longest putt. Jeff Lockridge, despite a high score, did keep his best shots for the last hole and his birdie on number nine was good enough to win all nine skins. *** The list for men's match play has been posted with 32 golfers participating. Be sure to check the list and arrange to get the first round matches played. Wayne Johnston is back to defend the title he won last year. a 8-1 win for Blyth Thunder. This was the Thunder's first victory of the season, so the Thunder sciccer playerS were very excited. Coach Anne Beth VanDorp said she was pleased with the effort and determination each player showed in this game. Short Putts - By Bill Johnston Lightning falls to Clinton Clinton Madrid came to Sparling's field to play soccer on June I, to play the U-l3 Blyth Lightning team. Clinton came out strong in this game and scored two goals during the first period. Greg Roetcisoender did a good job covering the net for Blyth and made several saves to keep his team in the game. Clinton scored four more goals in the second half of the game. Marc Dery covered the net for Blyth during the second' half of the game. This was his first time in net and he did a great job tryihg to stop Clinton from scoring. Clinton had a strong defensive line and didn't allow Blyth to take many shots on net. Coaches said Blyth Lightning has to come back a little quicker to stop their opponents from getting to the ball first and taking a shot on Blyth and getting the chance to score goals. The final score was a 6- 0 win for Clinton Madrid.
