Dead Crows and Blue Jays
West Nile Virus is transmitted to birds and humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms in
birds manifest as neurological signs such as convulsions, tremors, head tilt, wing droop, and
paralysis.
Huron County residents are urged to report all dead crows and blue jays until the first of October.
Crows and blue jays are particularly sensitive to West Nile Virus, so sightings will assist the Health
Unit in mapping out possible West Nile Virus activity in Huron County.
Report dead crows and blue jays to the Huron County Health Unit West Nile Virus 24 hour Info-line at
519-482-3416 Ext. 2001, or if calling long distance, 1-377-837-6143 Ext. 2001.
All other dead birds should be discarded in the following manner:
• place in a double plastic bag, using rubber gloves, a double plastic bag, or a shovel;
• do not touch dead birds with bare hands;
• place the bagged bird out with regular household garbage; and
• wash hands thoroughly.
To find out more, visit www.huroncounty.ca or call the Huron County Health Unit at 519-482-
3416 Ext. 2001 or if calling long distance, dial 1-877-837-6143 Ext. 2001.

The 35th elimination draw for the
Brussels Lions Club was another
resounding success on Saturday
evening. Lots of fun with all the
generations under one roof. It's such
a nice feeling to see each age group
having an enjoyable evening in their
own way. Lots of visiting and
laughter for the adults, a little
running with balloons for the young
ones in the crowd, a little music and
dance and some face painting for
good measure.
Pick a corner of the arena floor
and it was great to watch little
groups filling their leisure moments
with fun. The extra bonus was good
food and a chance to help the Lions
Club raise money for their
community work.
Tim and Donna Prior and- Neil
Turnbull were the last two ticket
holders making them the money
winners for this year's event. Spend
it well.
Graduation banquets and parties
are underway with more in the plans.
Proud parents, grandparents and
teachers look on with pride at the
maturing child. It's a time for them
to be recognized for their efforts and
then move on to the next stage of
their education. One of the joys of
getting old is watching the kids grow
into terrific young people.
Sheila Richards and Agnes Schell
have returned from their trip to
England. A little rain didn't stop
them from doing a thorough check
of the area that son David calls
home. Comparing the English day,
the size of the fields, lawns and
gardens was evident as was the use
of the local market for daily food
supply. Tours of churches and castles
brought home the age of England
compared to our Canadian history.
David and Shannon are enjoying
the experience of life in another
country and the RIM folks have
done a good job of helping them fit
right into the community. I'm sure
Agnes has her next trip nearly
planned.
S:.rnmer jobs and plans for the
holidays are the subject of many
conversations as the leisure days are
quickly coming to be. This is a good
time to get those extra jobs done
when there are eager young bodies
around to help.
