If your local pharmacy closed, how far would you have to travel for
medication and health advice? It could be quite a long way if Bill 102
is passed. Bill 102 will cut critical funding that pharmacies rely on
to operate.
This means up to 300 local and rural pharmacies may be forced to
close. Many people will have to travel outside their own communities
for prescriptions and medical advice. But that's not all.
There'll be longer waiting times to fill your prescriptions and receive
answers to questions about your health.
Many pharmacies that do remain open will probably have to reduce
hours of operation and staffing levels. And some drugs will not be
available as quickly as they are now. Is this really the kind of health
care you want?
Bill 102 must be fixed before it goes too far. Call Carol Mitchell at
1-866-396-3007 or email cmitchell.mpp@liberal.ola.org by June 5th.

Local volleyball player wins gold in Calgary
The Brussels Bantams
softball season got underway
on May 24 playing home to
Seaforth. Playing for Brussels
this year are Justin Pipe, Cody
Subject, Westin McLeod,
Evan Ducharme, Ryan Smith,
Tyler Dietner, Taylor Prior,
Wade Stephenson. Brianne
Wheeler and Brad
Quesenberry. Coaching duties
go to Sandra Josling and Lisa
Glanville.
Wheeler started on the
mound allowing three runs on
three hits, an error and two
walks.
Brussels came to bat
scoring three on singles by
McLeod, Subject and
Wheeler. Brussels loaded the
bases on walks to Prior.
Ducharme and Pipe. Smith
popped up to short and
Brussels would leave runners
in place.
Wheeler chalked up three
strikeouts in the second
allowing no runs.
Brussels rallied in the
second scoring two runs.
Dietner started with a single
and advanced on a single by
McLeod. Subject waited the
walk to load the bases.
Wheeler, Ducharme, Pipe and
Brussels U-8s travelled to
Elma on an evening where the
weather was a little
unpredictable.
Brussels never gave up and
played a very strong game.
Smith all singled. McLeod
cleared the bases with a grand
slam homerun.
Seaforth closed the gap
scoring three more runs on
three hits and three errors.
Wheeler singled in the third
followed by a walk to Prior.
They would advance to
scoring position. Subject,
Ducharme and Stephenson
went down swinging leaving
runners in place.
Smith took over pitching
duties for Brussels. After a
shaky start walking three to
load the bases, Smith
continued on to strikeout the
side.
Brussels again loaded the
bases yet were unable to
score.
Seaforth came out swinging
in the final inning. Four runs
scored to tie the game on three
singles, a double and a
homerun.
For Brussels last bat,
Wheeler flied out to right and
Prior and Ducharme were left
standing at the plate.
The final score would
remain tied.
The next home game is
Wednesday, May 31 at 7 p.m.
against Belgrave.
Logan Kellington scored
two and Delayna Smith
scored one. Derrick Waechter,
Logan Kellington and Cody
Harding took turns in net.

Jessica Sparling of Blyth
and her teammates from the
Stratford Stingers, won the
gold medal and the national
championship at the Western
National Volleyball
Championship tournament
held at the University of
Calgary last weekend.
"The girls played their best
volleyball of the season. They
were almost flawless. Every
player on the team made a
contribution to this victory,"
said Dave Damman, Stingers
head coach.
It was Damman's third trip
to the tournament, and his first
team to bring home the gold.
In Calgary, the Stingers
competed against 47 other
teams from five provinces and
two territories in the tier one,
division two, girls 15 and
under age category. After a
season which fell short of high
expectations, the Stingers won
three matches (two games
straight per match) to begin
the tournament on Saturday.
They were re-seeded for
Sunday, when they won three
more matches (two games
straight per match).
On Monday, the girls
advanced to the final eight and
defeated Nanaimo and
Winnipeg, each by two games
straight — and took a perfect
eight wins, 0 losses into the
final against' Vernon, B.C.
After losing the first game in
the final match, the Stingers
bounced back and won the
second game, and the tie-
breaker game. The final point
of the gold medal match was
scored on a spike by Sparling.
"It was an incredible
feeling. We were so
emotional," said Sparling.
"Players were crying, parents
were crying — even one of our
coaches was crying. We
worked so hard. What a great
way to end the season."
Tournament organizers
announced the 2006 event was
the largest volleyball
competition ever held in
Canada. The host venue was
the Olympic Oval, the
remarkable home of the
Canadian Olympic speed-
skating team.
For the tournament, the ice
was removed and'the floor was
covered with 24 volleyball
courts, bleachers and kiosks.
Over 3,000 athletes in two age
categories, and male and
female divisions competed in
the tournament. Three Ontario
15-and under girls clubs
finished in the top 10.
The Stingers team includes
players, 15-years and under,
from Huron and Perth
Counties, and competes
against 60 other club teams
across the province in the
Ontario Volleyball
Association.
U-10s
lose 4-1
Brussels U-10s second
game of the season was
against Newton. It was a good
game but Newton had a few
extra scoring chances than
Brussels. James Dow gave
Brussels one point. Lexis
Smith made a great pass.
Matt and Curtis Terpstra
played a strong game in net.
The final score was 4-1 for
Newton.
