THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 2006. PAGE 3.
On May 24 the Blyth Swinging
Seniors met at Memorial Hall.
Several tables were covered with
old photos and artifacts related to the
village of Blyth for people to enjoy.
Members brought pictures and
information for the repository that
the Voddens are assembling.
After lunch, Shirley Nicholson,
president, conducted the business
meeting. Jean Plaetzer gave an
interesting report on the spring rally.
Janis and Brock Vodden,
collectors of history and now living
in Wingham, took the group on a
virtual (illustrated) walk down
Queen Street that began in the
1850s. Many names of those who
have made the village a vibrant place
to live were recalled.
Sympathy is extended to the
family of Mary Walden who passed
away Saturday, May 27.
Happy birthday to Lois vanVliet
who celebrates this week.
Many relatives, friends and
neighbours gathered at the Women's
Institute Hall in Belgrave to honour
Susan Bieman with a community
shower. Everyone enjoyed the mock
wedding skit. The hosts served a
delicious lunch and everyone was
invited to use the chocolate fountain
while Susan opened her many gifts.
Everyone enjoyed themselves

BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on May 28 were Myrtle Badley and
Judy Gleave. Ushering were Cliff
Snell, Joann MacDonald, Rob
Mason and Earl Fyfe. Guest pianist
was Amanda Schwartzentruber.
Tom Dunbar welcomed everyone
to church in the absence of Rev.
Robin McGauley who was attending
London Conference weekend.
The choir anthem was I Believe in
Miracles.
The children's hymn was All
Praise to You. The children came to
the front for their story. Mr. Dunbar
asked them some questions to which
they were to answer with one word.
Some of the questions were "Who
taught you how to ride a bike? Who
taught you how to bake cookies?
Who does the driving of the car?"
Most of the answers were their
parents.
Another question was "Who looks
after our heart?" Most answers were
God.
Lorna Fraser thanked everyone for
their support and help for the Sunday
school's pancake breakfast last
Sunday. She also invited everyone to
Camp Menesetung on June 11 for
Award Sunday for the Sunday
school and a potluck lunch to follow.
The scriptures were from Psalm 1
and John 17: 6-24. Psalm 91 was led
by Deb Hakkers.
Mr. Dunbar's message to the
adults was Security In An Insecure
World. The world today is not better
now than when Jesus walked the
earth. Although through many hard
times and strife in the world,
Christianity is still being spread. The
Bible has been translated into many
languages. Security is unity with
God. We are not alone.
Joan Clark announced that there
would be a potluck lunch after
church on Sunday, June 25 to
celebrate Rev. McGauley's
wedding.-
