Sports Blyth U-13s fall to Goderich The Brussels Legion U-10 team started the soccer season with a close game with Elma recently. Elma started the game with high shot that even Curtis Terpstra's tall reach couldn't save. Then Elma • scored again. In second half a girl from Elma had a nice shot on her own goalie, so Dawson Peachy took credit for the goal. Elma scored again, but Brussels wasn't done fighting. Carl Dow kicked one between the pipes. The Brussels U-8 Its recently played Brussels U-8 I. The kids had a great time and the final score was 6-0, for Brussels II with three goals scored by Logan Kellington and three by Delayna Smith. Brussels II consists of Connor Bridge, Sophie Cardiff, Kyle Cronin, Cody Harding, Nolan Johnston, Logan Kellington, Teagan Brother James Dow had to show his stuff and scored with minutes left. The game was now at a tie, but Elma put on power and scored to make it 4-3. The local U-10 team consists of James Dow, Curtis Terpstra, Carl Dow, Taylor Higgins, Joel Kipfer, Kaitlyn Macleod, Alex Ramirez, Jasmine Roth, Laura Souch, Matthew Terpstra, Dakota Godden, Austin Johnston, Dalen Martin, Seth Nichol, Dawson Peachy. TRY CLASSIFIED Another soccer season has begun and the Blyth Lightning co-ed U-13 soccer team travelled to Goderich Agriculture Park for their first game of the season. Goderich II was the host team for this May 11 game. Parents and fans settled in to watch the teams warm up, and a short-lived rain shower made its appearance just as the official blew the whistle to start the game. This little shower made the field and the ball nice and slippery for all the players. Goderich was first to score in the game. However, less then a minute later half back, Brendon Boven made a nice pass to Brent Drost for a The 2006 soccer season is now underway, and on May 9 the Blyth Lightning squad travelled to Lucknow for the first game. The Blyth Lightning is a co-ed team of local players ages 10 and 11. The Lightning's first opponents were Lucknow III. Blyth players were stopped every time by Lucknow's strong defence and their impressive goalkeeper. Coach Anne-Beth VanDorp gave Blyth a pep talk at half-time and the Lightning played a much stronger second half. Since it is the beginning of the season, this new group of kids had only had one practice to learn how to play together. In the second The first game of the season for the Brussels U-10 I was played on Monday, May 8 at Jackson Park in Listowel against Listowel I. On the first half under sunny skies, Brussels started off strong as Wyatt Ducharme scored two quick goals. Listowel came back with two goals of their own to tie it up. Ducharme found the top corner of the net again to score a hattrick. Curtis Bloemberg played well in net making several great saves and keeping Brussels ahead of the game. In the second half Tim Waechter was goalkeeper and prevented any further goals. The game ended with a score of 3- 2 for Brussels. The rest of the lineup for the season includes Alyssa and Tyler Cronin, Morgan Sheppard, Patrick _ Franken, Madeleine Rouleau, Mitchell Kellington, Cody Rathwell, Tiffany Deitner, Jenessa, Neill, Eric Van Nes, Emma Strome and Carlie Ducharme. The team is coached by Mike Cronin, assisted by Jacquie Waechter. goal for Blyth. Brooke Snell made a nice pass up the field, but it was intercepted by a Goderich player. ,,Drost got the ball away from Goderich to score another goal. There were several more scoring opportunities for Blyth through penalty shots and shots on net that hit the crossbar, but no other goals were scored in the first half. Blyth had a 2 -1 lead at half-time. Greg Roetcisoender was Blyth's goalkeeper and he did a fantastic job, making numerous saves for his team. In_ the second half of the game, Blyth's defence got a little sloppy and Goderich scored three goals and half you could see the team working better together and handling the ball with much more skill and confidence. Lucknow was the first to score in the second half. However, it wasn't long before Blyth earned a throw-in whole in Lucknow' defensive end. Forward, Jan Paul VanDorp took the throw-in and the ball bounced on the ground and into the Lucknow net for Blyth's first goal. Lucknow scored two more goals. Then Julia Tyler paised the ball up the field and Jan Paul VanDorp got the ball past Lucknow's defence to score. VanDorp then scored the final goal and Megan Hoggart earned the took the lead. Halfback Alex Raynard made a nice pass to forward Drost who scored for Blyth. It was still anyone's game until Goderich scored again. This brought down Blyth's spirit and with a last minute goalkeeper change, Nick Brandon-Caldwell was put in the net, Goderich was able to get another goal in the last minute of the game. The final score was a 6-3 victory for Goderich Coaches for Blyth Lightning are Lauren and Darren Bouman. They feel the Lightning put forth a great team effort for their first game of the season. assist. Blyth's goaltenders Jan Paul and Leenhardt VanDorp put forth a strong effort and made some fantastic saves to help keep Blyth in the game. The final score was a 9-3 win for Lucknow, Blyth Lightning players have a lot of potential and will gain strength over the season as they learn to play their positions and work together as a team.
