Friends, relatives and 8th-line neighbours gathered at the home of Emily Phillips to honour Erin Siemon (fiancee of Mark Nesbit). Erin received many gifts and everyone enjoyed a delicious dessert and coffee. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on May 14 were Myrtle Badley and Judy Gleave. Ushering were Terry Richmond, Lavern Clark, Hary Bernard and Rob Mason. Guest organist was Lynda McGregor. All mothers were greeted by one of the Sunday school children and presented with a paper hag hat, decorated with flowers and ribbons and tooling. Lorna Fraser told how the Sunday school children had made the paper bag hats the last few Sundays. She invited everyone for pancake breakfast with the Sunday school next Sunday. Avon Cornell and Cheryl Cronin sang a duet. The children came to the front of the church. Rev. Robin McGauley asked them,to sit in the front seats so they could see the baptism of Ti Andrew Don Fraser. Rev. McGauley lit the, candle to be taken down to Sunday school. David Onn read the scriptures and led the responsive Psalm 104 with The Blyth Horticultural Society held its spring invitational meeting on Monday evening, May 8 at Memorial Hall with approximately 30 people in attendance, including visitors from neighbouring horticultural societies. Anne Elliott, president, opened the Meeting welcoming everyone, asking each person to introduce themselves and say where they were from. Special-musical entertainment was the Chalmers sisters. Sadie sang Maybe, Logan and MacKenzie danced. The sisters have all won awards at Kiwanis Music Festival. Guest speaker was Shirley Koch, owner of Riverbend Gardens at RR2, Wroxeter. McGauley's message to the adults was Come to the Waters. Rev. McGauley paid tribute to all the mothers and said to celebrate the Mother of all of us,. the One who created us. She said the earth was 75 per cent water and only one per cent is fresh water. The water goes up in the sky as vapour, comes down as rain and is purified by the earth. Babies are 75 per cent water, men are 64 per cent and women are 58 per cent. Canada has the most fresh water in the world. Fifty per cent of the countries of the world have experienced a shortage of water. We must appreciate our water an take good care of it. such as • El Nino, Elvis Lives, Striptease, Gypsy Rose, Fire Ice, Red October, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Fireworks, Love of Life, Patriots and many, many more. She has over 400 varieties of hostas and day lilies for sale, a few which cost up to $200. Most hostas like the shade but there are some varieties that can tolerate the sun. The enjoyable evening concluded with door prizes and refreshments. A new hairdo Gerrard Bjorkman, Blyth Public school's student council member, shaves the head of teacher Jane Badden on May 9.
