It's a fact that many fire deaths
are caused by people attempting
to cook or smoke while
under the influence of alcohol.
There's more to responsible
drinking than taking a cab.
Don't put yourself - YLAkvzi.„
or your family -
at risk to fire. tc

Noreen Gnay greeted worshippers
and handed out the service of
worship at' Knox United Church on
Sunday, May 7. Gloria Dow
welcomed everyone on a cool but-
sunny spring morning. The hymn-
sing was accompanied by Elizabeth
Procter.
Sydney Wightman' was wished a
happy birthday on behalf of the
congregation.
Rev. Camillin La Rouche of
Mitchell United Church was the
-guest minister. Rev. Ethel Miner
Clare did the service at Mitchell
United Church.
The assurance of pardon was taken
from John 3: 16.
The senior choir sang Seek Ye
First.
The children's hymn was Jesus
Bids Us Shine. The children went to
the front for storytime. Rev. La
Rouche told the children that it was
Good Shepherd's Sunday. God saves
people so that they can fulfill their
purpose, just as the shepherd saved
his sheep. God is the good shepherd
and accompanies us, the minister
said.
The children adjourned to Sunday
school.
Adel Dodds read scripture from
John 3: 16-24 and John 10: 11-18.
The sermon was entitled Love's
Choice and reflected on the
children's theme.
People are called to be good
shepherds to care for their children
just as the shepherd looks after his
sheep.
Be a good shepherd and
accompany someone else, the
minister said. God is our Good
Shepherd and has accompanied us.
Joyce Vincent and Doug Walker
collected the offering.
The Lord's Prayer was recited in
unison. The closing hymn was The
king of Love My Shepherd Is.

Knox United Church Women met
at the home of Louise Bosman, on
Tuesday, May 2 with 12 members
present.
Nancy Folkard was in charge of
the meeting, and thanked the
hostess.
Mabel Wheeler used scripture as
part of the worship, so groups found
passages where women were
mentioned. The theme was Woman's
Place and the meditation compared
the role of women during Biblical
times, and through the generations.
Laura Johnston read a story of
women as well.
The roll call was answered by each
one picking a letter out of the
alphabet, then using that letter to
represent someone or something out
of the Bible.
This was followed with a video, A
Faith Lift - Mirror, Mirror on the
Wall, with Liz Curtis Higgs as
commentator. She also went through
the alphabet to the conference -she
was speaking to, by using each letter
to tell of ho* God feels about each
woman. This was a humorous look
at people, how they see themselves,
and that what is inside is the most
important.
