Award-winning essay How Lucky I Am The following is the essay Tori Kellington of Brussels wrote and placed third in the Amior Division of the provincial Remembrance competition: How Lucky I Am On Remembrance-Day I think of how lucky I am to have peace, freedom and rights. I stand for two minutes of silence on the llth hour of the I lth day of the Ilth month to rbmernber the Canadians who sacrificed their lives and to pay my respects. I am lucky because I have peace. I can join whatever groups I feel like joining. I can play on any sports teams I want to play on. I can enjoy the calmness of my •backyard. I can walk down my street safely to go to school. My life is easier because I have peace. I am lucky because I have freedom. I am free to have my own opinions, thoughts and beliefs. I can go to church and believe in the religion of my choice.,1 am free to live wherever my family decides to move. My life is easier because I have freedom. I am lucky because I have rights. I have the legal right to be innocent until proven guilty. I have the right not to be put in prison without a good cause. I have the right to be treated with the respect I deserve. My life is easier because I,have rights. I am lucky because I have peace, freedom and rights. It is because of the sacrifice the soldiers made in both world wars that I can live in Canada comfortably. I hope that Canada never goes to war with another country again. Media Atom mitt teue!
