(Vicky Bremner photo) Obituaries BARBARA SCOTT Barbara (Owen) Scott of Seaforth passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Friday, April 28, 2006. She was in her 79th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon Scott (1991). Barbara was the dear mother of Brian 'Sandra), Scarborough: Jean (Richard Shaddick), Ottawa; Ted (Kathy) and Bill (Karen), all of Waterloo; Bruce, Seaforth; Stuart (Susan), South Korea and Allyson (Rob Cardiff), Brussels. She was the loving grandmother of Kim (Gary Clarke), Lisa, Cathrine, Sandra (Sean), David (Sara), Lynn (Trevor), Nancy, Jill (Matt), Carly, Chris, Tim (Krista), Jeff, Victoria, Sophie and Albert and great-grandmother of Gabriel Clarke, Xavyer and M,ontgomeree Scott. Barbara is also remembered by her brother Roy (Betty) Owen of Wales and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents George and Dora Owen and her sister Van (Lewis Tyler). Family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on Saturday from 7 - 9-p.m. and Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Legion memorial service was held at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:45 p.m. The funeral service was held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Seaforth on Monday, May 1 at 3 p.m. Rev. Sue Malpus officiated. Interment was in Maitlandbank . By Joanne Lennips. The 59th annual meeting of the Synodical Society of Southwestern Ontario of the Women's Missionary Society was held on April 25 and 26 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Sarnia. The theme for the two day meeting was Missions - Global, National and Local. Rev. Dr. Raymond Hodgson, l` minister of the host church, gave the welcoming remarks. Barbara Nawratil, a mission education co-ordinator, spoke about planning a mission trip. She raises a renewed awareness regarding money and where it goes. She helps to educate the congregation and gives rules to go by: be flexible; be humble; be a team player, don't have a personal agenda; be prepared, learn as much as possible about the country and the needs of the people; Cemetery, Seaforth. Pallbearers were Chris Scott, Tim Scott, Jeff Scott, David Shaddick, Gary Clarke and Matt Snyder. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Eisler and Jim Watson. Flowerbearers were Ann Wood and Mary DeJong. Margaret McGillivary, the president of the WMS, spoke of her experiences in Japan as she travelled, with nine other women. The Japanese women are dedicated mission workers. Following the evening meal, the Harmony Bells of Sarnia played familiar hymns with the bells. The quartet, Just 4 Fun, sang several gospel hymns. Rev. Hodgson led in closing worship Wednesday morning was devoted to the business of the Society. The group heard from Lou Ford of the National Mission dealing with the reconciliation and healing of the Native peoples. He told the group that there are programs that we can study to learn how to work with the people. Joseph Taylor, the executive director of Evangel Hall in Toronto, spoke abotit his work with the homeless. A new building has been built because of a need for shelter and health care. Evangel Hall has been working with the homeless for 93 years. They sponsor an Out of the Cold program and in the new building can house 130 families. They have a need for bedding and clothes in good condition. We can help with our support of money and prayers. Rev. Sarah Kim installed the officers for 2006.
