Huron Chapel's Olympians, the Wednesday night children's program, is coming to a close with only two more weeks left. The children continue to earn their Olympian medals by memorizing scripture verses and doing acts of service. This week, they will celebrate with a pizza party and shopping at the store with the Olympian dollars they have earned. Next week, the parents are invited for a barbecue and closing program. • On May 6, as part of Auburn's community wide yard sale, Zach Wood and Anya Scott will be setting up tables at Huron Chapel with baking and yardsale treasures to raise funds for their mission trip to Israel this summer. Auburn sends congratulations to Brent Andrews who completed his electrical course • at Fanshawe College. He graduated with honours and on the Dean's List. Bravo, Brent. Knox United Church celebrated communion on Sunday and welcomed four new members into the church family, Michael McDowell, Roman Sturzenegger, Shawna Popp and Jeffrey Plaetzer. Shawna played a piano duet with Nancy Park titled Spring. Grace Hildebrand played several piano selections before church and at the offertory. Following the service, a light lunch was served in honour of the occasion. Auburn will be hosting its annual yard sale this Saturday. The Auburn Lions will be having their pancake breakfast on Saturday instead of Sunday to coincide with the event. And don't forget - this will be the last Lions breakfast until next fall. So get out and enjoy that sweet maple syrup on a short stack and on your way back enjoy a sweet deal on a hunt for treasure track. The stag and doe for Ian Andrews and Bex Brame was held at the Goderich arena Saturday night. There were loads of best wishes from family and friends as they prepare for their August wedding. Congratulations to Dave Campbell who received his Ontario College Certificate from Fanshawe College as a Sheet Metal Apprentice. Good for you Dave - can you fix a leaky roof? A few of the Auburn Lions members attended the Lions convention in Kincardine. Friendships were renewed and a good time was had by everyone. Congratulations to Patricia Robinsons for graduating from her four-year registered nursing course at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay. She accepted a position at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener in the emergency ward. In the report on the Auburn Women's Institute last week Jean Nethery was reported as belonging to the Brussels branch. Jean belongs to Belgrave Branch and I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Five young ladies from the Auburn area are members of the Goderich Knights of Columbus Bantam hockey team that won an Ontario Championship. Kayla McWhinney, Kesley Johnston, Jacklyn Kernighan, Shawna Popp and Danielle Bean participated in the Ontario Women's Hockey Association Provincial Bantam C tournament held at the Meadowvale 4 Rinks in Mississauga, on April 7, 8, 9. They defeated teams from Flamborough, Kanata, Nipigon, Port Perry and Sarnia to claim the championship. This team had an outstanding year, having also won the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Port Elgin which qualified them to attend the International Silver Stick in Trenton in February where they won the championship. They had a 12-game playoff series and won every game. In the final series against Ripley, they came out on top making them eligible for the provincial tournament. They finished off the season with a final fun tournament in Brampton on Easter weekend where they placed second in the Bantam Division for the largest women's hockey tournament in Canada. Kindergarten spring tea Lila Rintoul, Lucknow, reads to her grandson Ryan Smuck at the spring tea East Wawanosh Public School's kindergarten put on for the students' relatives and neighbours. Grandparents, parents and other relatives, and neighbours were invited to enjoy a light tea, read with the students, and a short concert.
