Seventy members of the
Leatherland -family gathered on
Easter Sunday at the Auburn Hall for
a get-together. Honoured guest was
Annie Vincent: the oldest remaining
member of the family. Joyce
(Leatherland) Unruh and her
husband, Ernie, flew in from Calgary
for the event.
Other family members came from
Guelph, Clinton, Goderich, Windsor,
Blyth, Auburn and surrounding area.
Shirley Andrews along with Greg
and Nancy Park attended the
production of The Plain Dealer
presented by the GDCI Drama Club
on Friday night. They were
thoroughly entertained by the story
and the professionalism of the actors.
Their eyes were riveted to the stage
each time their nephew, Ben Brown,
was on the stage, either in a speaking
role or playing his fiddle.
Ben was one of the students who
returned from the Drama Festival at
Cambridge with an Award of
Distinctive Merit as given by the
adjudicator. Well done, everyone.
A stag and doe for Auburnites, Ian
Andrews and Bev Brame, will be
held April 29. Their' wedding is
planned for August in an outdoor
setting near Goderich.
Mike Ryan won second place in the
Goderich hockey pool and won a
barbecue. Mike made a special point
of wishing Ben Craig better luck next
year.
The Auburn Lions breakfast is
Saturday, May 6 to coincide with the
Auburn village wide yard sale.
Former Auburn resident, Ken
Bauer celebrated his 70th birthday
with a family potluck supper at the
home of Gerry and Ann Bauer near
Whitechurch. Approximately 35
guests gathered to wish the 'old boy'
a happy birthday. Among the notable
guests were past neighbours from
south of Goderich, Jim and Joyce
Oke. as well as others.
Club meets
The Walkerburn Club met at the
home of Christena Gross on
Monday, April 10.
Deanna Snell opened the meeting
with two readings, Little Things and
How Rich We Are. These were
followed by prayer.
Roll call was answered . by 'seven
members with recipes for a beverage
or hors d'oeuvres handed in for an
upcoming cookbook.
Next month's meeting will-be held
at the home of Pat Hunking on
Monday, May 8 with the roll call
being Bring a Soup Recipe. The
Club will be having its annual spring
plant sale at this meeting so
members are asked to bring
flowering plants, perennials or
miscellaneous items.
It was decided that the club would
donate favours for Clinton Public
Hospital -for Valentine's Day 2007.
A community picnic is being
'planned for June 25 of this year..
Several four-patch quilt blocks
were handed out to members to take
home and sew together. Bernice
Norman read four Easter poems:
Palm Sunday, Was it I, Lost Hour
and Afterward. •
Dorothy Schneider brought a 1943
newspaper and read a very
interesting account of the 25th
anniversary of the Walkerburn Club.
Everyone then enjoyed lunch
served by Dorothy and the hostess.

at annual meeting
The Auburn Women's Institute
held its annual meeting on Thursday
last week. Fifteen members and
three - guests filled up with turkey,
beef and all the trimmings at
Stickers. Not one thing was
overlooked by the chef.
Among the guests were district
president, myself Debbie Bauer;
past district secretary Jean Nethery
of Majestic Branch and Lila Rintoul
of the St. Helens Branch.
After lunch, the ladies moved to
the Auburn Hall where president
Erma Cartwright called the meeting
to order. Along with donations being
dispersed, the primary order of
business was the installations of new
officers for the upcoming year.
With all positions declared vacant,
the nominating committee put
forward their efforts: past president,
Margaret Fraser; president, Erma
Cartwright; secretary, Margaret
Fraser, assisted by Tena Empey;
treasurer, Teresa Roetcisoender;
district director, Betty Archambault;
card convenor, Tweedsmuir curator
and pianist, Laura May Chamney;
public relations officer, Jean
Plaetzer.
Those taking on individual
programs were: agriculture and
Canadian industries, Tena Empey;
education, June Robinson; family
affairs, Lois Elliott; health, Gwen
Bidwell; examiners, Jane Glousher
and Margaret Fraser.
Once the formal business was
taken care of. congratulations were
given to member June Robinson for
her unequalled achievements for 4-
H. President Erma read an article
from a recent paper outlining her
efforts on the kids behalf. June has
completed 93 programs.
A celebratory cake was served
with ice-cream and tea while
everyone enjoyed their time
together.
