Payment can be made by mail or directly at the Municipal Office, 41342 Morris Rd., RR 4, Brussels, ON NOG 1H0. For your convenience, a drop box is available at the front door for after hours use. Payments can also be made at most banking institutions and by telephone and internet banking. Failure to receive your property tax bill does not in any way exempt you from payment. R.R. 4, Brussels, ON NOG 1H0 ***Tags can be picked up in person or ordered by telephone*** All dogs must be licensed in compliance with By-law No. 63-2004. A copy of the complete By-law is available for review at the Municipal Office. All dogs must be identified by means of a tag and license, issued for a (1) one year period by: Friday, April 28, 2006 The fee schedule shall be as follows: 1/ All Dogs (except those listed in #2) - males, females, and spayed females $20.00 per dog 2/ Pit bulls, Pit bull crosses, Staffordshire terriers $100.00 per dog 3/ Kennel License Fee $75.00 (for a kennel of dogs that are registered or eligible for registration uncle , the Animal Pedigree Act) 4/ Late Payment Charge $20.00 per dog (Shall be assessed in addition to the license fee, if the license and/or tag is not purchased by April 28th) Excrement: The By-law requires dog owners to forthwith remove excrement left by a dog, from property other than the premises of the owner of the dog. Any person contravening this provision is subject to a $50.00 fee. At the Branch Writer extends apology to Lowe family By Jo-Ann McDonald \11+ apologies first. I received miormation about the passing of Doug Lowe. This information was ,%i-ong, incorrect, not right. My sincere- apology to the Lowe families, relatives and friends on the reporting of this mistake. Relatives were quick to inform me that Doug is alive and well. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan last week. Special prayers go out to the family of Matthew Dinning in Wingham. The tragedies suffered in the Canadian participation in Afghanistan are distant to us, until it is one of our own, so close to home, ho is lost. Any and all lives that have been lost by Canadian troops, in any conflicts, in years gone by or in years to come are the painful result of Canada's commitment to ensuring freedom of ourselves and others. It is to this objective that the Royal Canadian Legion strives to ensure that "We Will Remember Them.- The executive met on Tuesday evening to discuss the business of the Branch. The nominating committee reports all offices are tilled for the upcoming year and Deputy Zone Commander Stew Taylor will be attending the general and elections meeting. All comrades are urged to attend and support their fellow comrades. The Thursday night darts had 10 taking aim at the boards. The first- place team was John Harrison and Mary Dickson. Second place went to Marlene Little, Bush Whittard and Nat Mirotta. The high shot was by Marlene shooting a 114. The Friday night supper of sweet and sour meatballs was enjoyed by a good crowd. This week is roast pork. Saturday was busy at the Branch with darts and euchre. The Huron County men's dart league played their double darts competition. The winners, Clint Emmrich and Trevor Ward, defeated 14 others teams. Congratulations to them. There were 10 tables of euchre players vying for prizes on Saturday. The top prize was won by Mac Smith and Eleanor Dane. Second was Hugh and Dorothy Carter and third went to Janet Mathers and Irlma Edgar. The not-so-lucky- Card prize went to Bea Stoll and Betty Hulley. Lone hand prizes went to Tom Sloan and Vera Ahrens. The Cadet corps held an outside learning day at the farm of Richard Miller. They learned about agricultural safety including tractors, farm machinery, and ATVs. • They also learned about firearm safety and archery safety. They had a chance to practise archery. The corps enjoyed going to the Hullett Wildlife area, as well as on a hayride. Outdoors survival activities included how to start a fire and how to cook over an open fire. They enjoyed an open fire lunch. It was a great day with good weather. It was an exciting day for two young people from our area on Sunday. Mercedes TenPas and Jacob McGavin were participating in Area public speaking for the Royal Canadian Legion in Toronto on Sunday. Each were one of three speakers in their respective divisions vying for the right to advance to provincial competition. They both spoke excellently and finished in second place. Comments from those in attendance was it must have been a very tough decision for the judges, as all the speakers were excellent. Attending from the Brussels Legion in support of Mercedes and Jacob were new youth chairman John Lowe and District youth chairman, Crystal Taylor of Blyth. Also present were Brian and Melinda TenPas. Also present were Sadie's brothers Hayden and Brody and grandparents Bruce and Anna Hamilton, Jeff and Shannon McGavin, Jacob's sisters Mackenzie and Teagan, grandparents Bob and Colleen Rowe, Larry Rice and Peggy and Neil and Marie McGavin, great-grandparents Ruth Elliott and Jenny Rice as well as Darren, Jody, Luke and Taylor Rowe. Congratulations to these talented children. The Sunday night dance at the branch was well attended. Music was by John Heaman. Attending District convention in Stratford on the .weekend were Norm Dobson, Jo-Ann McDonald and Glenn Bridge. The Cadet Corps put on a very successful breakfast at the Branch on Sunday momineAttended by over 300 diners, the meal consisted of sausage, bacon, hash browns, scrambled eggs, toast, juice, coffee to make a great start to the day. Congrats to the parent advisory committee for a great job. Comrades are reminded that the donations for the auction are due in this week or at least the sheets for perishable items like baking.
