Plans for a Family Health Team in
Seaforth may have gone down the
drain.
According to Huron East deputy-
mayor Bernie MacLellan who is the
council representative at meetings
about the Family Health Team,
"everyone involved is fed up."
"The province ,is 100 per cent in
favour of Seaforth getting a Family
Health Team," he said. "The doctors
have been on and off and I have not
been able to find a reason why."
MacLellan said he feels it may be
an internal issue but he is not aware
of any public information.
"If the doctors don't agree in a
timely fashion that we will lose the
Family Health Team. As far as I can
see it is solely up to the doctors," he
said.
"The province bent over
backwards to answer their questions
and bring them on board."
He added that the last time he met
with the doctors they recognized
that the program would bring
services to ..Huron East that the
municipality does not currently
have.
"What changed their minds I
cannot say. It's the doctors
themselves that are holding up the
project from going forward," he
said.
MacLellan was hopeful that the
doctors would change their minds
before the time limit
Mayor Joe Seili said the lack of
answers isn't due to a lack of effort.
"We were asking around to everyone
but we aren't getting any answers.
It's not that we aren't trying," he
Huron East mayor Joe Seili
announced that he will be running
for re-election this fall.
"My name will be, back on the
ballot this fall," he said at the
Tuesday, April 18 meeting. "I don't
agree with the [provincial mandate
of serving four years]. It took me a
long time to decide but I have
decided."
The new legislation means
municipal councils will serve four
years rather than the three they do
now. The longer term applies to both
municipal and school board
politicians.

Treasurer-finance manager, Brad
Knight informed council that the e-
waste site in Walton is doing well.
"We have collected 7,700 lbs since
starting," he said.

Barry Mills was hired as the new
public works co-ordinator for Huron
East. Mills comes from Lucan-
Biddulph. The change is due to a re-
organization in the department. John
Forrest will be working as a grade-
operator and Mills will be stepping
in, clerk-administrator Jack
McLachlan said.

A recommendation that council
join in an agreement with West Perth
to swap building officials if the need
arises was approved by council.
The two building officials will be
available to work in either
municipality if there is a need. "It's
so that a project doesn't get held up
because the building official is away
or sick," Seili said. "It keeps it out of
the county hands."

said.
Councillor Joe Steffler proposed
that the conflict could have
something to do with the person
who wrote -the proposal no longer
being on the board. "The proposal
was used as a government model
and the person who wrote it should
be given credit," he said.
MacLellan said that he didn't
know any public information that
could be released to explain the
change in the progress of the project.
