I'm sure that many families enjoyed getting together, many enjoyed hearing the story of Easter and children thrilled in the hunt for Easter eggs and baskets. Our own family gathered at the home of my mother in Mitchell. Everyone was able to be there, 20 in total. It was also a time of remembering. Easter Sunday was the sixth anniversary of my father's passing. Not a lot of talk on specific memories, but the little things we remember about him. How he said grace at each meal, how much he hated ham and how he always had a hug for us when leaving. Neil and Marie McGavin have returned from a I2-day trip to the west coast. They were in Vancouver and Vancouver Island where they visited with relatives, friends, business friends and a nephew. They made a stop at Butchart Gardens, Osoyoos and Kelowna as well. -Neil and Marie had dinner with Neil McDonald one evening. Neil McGavin took • the opportunity to ski at Big White Rockies.- They found that the trees, daffodils and flowers were all coming out in bloom. It was lovely weather and lawns were being cut. They travelled to Chiliwack, B.C. where they met up with George Townsend, Graeme and Helen Craig and Helen's sister Mary. They were there to support the Canadian Plowing Match Championships, where local Bill Feeney, who was the Ontario Junior. Champion competed and was named the Reserved Canadian Champion. George Townsend is Bill's coach. He reports that it was really good land and a great competition. They had a good trip and were glad to get home. Obviously if the McGavins met up with the Craigs, they were also holidaying. Graeme and Helen flew to Las Vegas to start their trip. Helen reports that they were not big on gambling, but spent a lot of time walking and seeing the enormous casinos. They attended three very different shows and saw Celine Dion, Elton John and Barry Manilow. They thoroughly enjoyed all the shows. They took the bus tour to Hoover Dam and were overwhelmed by the immense size of the power plant. There are seven turbines that feed power to the Nevada side of the dam and seven turbines feed the Arizona side. From Las Vegas they flew to San Diego and saw the sand and surf of the Pacific Ocean. 'A trip to Garden Grove, California which is a suburb of Los Angeles, was made -to visit the Crystal Cathedral, which is the home of the Robert Schuller Ministry. They were able to see the Glory of Easter play put on there. It is a very professionally done number with angels in the air and live animals. It was a very good play of the Easter story and resurrection. The Craigs then flew 'from San Diego to Burnaby, B.C..to visit with Helen's sister Mary Elliott. There was a side trip to Laconna, Washington to see a huge bulb- growing farm with its many beautiful gardens. Then it was on to Chiliwack and the Canadian Plowing Match where they met up with the McGavins, Townsend and Feeney. Helen and Mary slipped up to the Harrison Hot Springs to enjoy a mineral spa as well. Graeme and Helen visited other relatives while in Vancouver including Melvin and Joan Stewart. It was a very busy two weeks that they were away. Marilyn McDonald has had house guests over the past two weeks. Sister Jane Gill arrived from Ottawa for a two-week stay. Other relatives from the Newman family also visited. They were able to spend a short time with Betty Newman of Wingham before her passing last week. . Our condolences to Don Newman and family on their loss. Welcome back to Margery Huether on her return from wintering in Florida. FROM WALTON Bennetts greet at Duff's Greeting at Duff's Easter Sunday service were Ross and Marg Bennett. The children heard a story from Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky on new life. The grass is brown and dead looking every spring, but with every passing day will turn green and have new life and new beginning. The Easter story is like that, she said. Jesus died on Good Friday but he rose on Easter Sunday to show the way of a new beginning. The choir sang the anthem, Jesus Christ is Risen Today. Scripture reader was Jo-Ann McDonald. Rev. Joan's reflection was on how powerful the story of Easter is. Jesus suffered a horrible death, but His rising from the dead and ascending into heaven has given great meaning to many generations of people. It is a sign that life transcends death and opens new possibilities, that love can conquer the truths of humanity. New beginnings are ixperienced by all in their lives, Rev. Joan said. The beginning of school, new jobs, new relationships, marriage or the loss of loved ones are the result of something ending. Jesus gives people the faith they need to go on at times. The Easter lilies that graced the altar were delivered to members Bertha Love, Malinda Johnston and Doreen Hackwell.
