No wonder so many people with CF stop breathing in their early 30s. Please help us. WHITFIELD I would like to take this time to thank those who supported me in my .2005- 2006 hockey season. I enjoyed answering the "How did you do this past weekend questions." Our Saugeen Maitland Midget AA team had a very successful season 39-14-17; Waterloo Tournament Champions and a tough loss for the Bronze at Provincials. Thanks goes out to Skeoch Business Equipment, Grain Stoves Inc.. Sparling's Propane, Grandma and Poppa Whitfield and Mom and Dad. Thanks You, Kendall Whitfield , WHITFIELD I would like to thank all those who helped make it possible for me to play hockey for the Huron Perth Laker Major PeeWees. We had a terrific season, Eastern League Champs, Alliance Semi- Finalists, a trip to the Quebec Pee Wee Tournament. Your sponsorship and words of encouragement have allowed me to play some excellent hockey while creating new friends and life-long memories. Sports Midget Girls wrap up great season Goalie of the year Ryan Smith received the Don Higgins Memorial Trophy for goalie of the year at the Brussels Minor Hockey banquet on Tuesday, April 11. (Heather Crawford photo) Tryouts set for Lightning Turn off the TV screens and win From April 24-28, the Huron County Health Unit and Take Heart Huron challenge students, school staff, and their families to Turn Off the Screens! During Turn Off the Screens Week, students and school staff are encouraged to be active and explore me world around them. By _turning off televisions, video games, and computers (except for use with homework), participants ,..an win great prizes. The grand prize is a $150 gift certificate for sports equipment. Many other przes, including gift certificates. T-shirts, and Frisbees 'are available to he won by students. One school staff person will win a 's50 gift certificate for an Eat Smart! restaurant in Huron County. To help students, school staff. and their families turn off their screens, local physical activity events are being held throughout the week. It's easy to participate. Every elementary student and staff person will receive a log sheet from their (.0)Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foun dation 800-378-CCFF • www.cysticfibrosis.ca school. Each day during Turn Off the Screens Week, participants record what activity they did instead of the TV or computer. A parent or guardian must sign the log sheets to make sure the student was screen-free for all five days. All completed sheets returned to the school or the Health Unit by May I I. will be put into a random draw for prizes. Physical activity resources will be awarded to each elementary school where 25 per cent or more of students and staff participate. Turn Off the Screens Week is a five-day recess from the electronic world. You can also visit them on-line at www.huroncounty.ea/healthunit Another hockey season is over, but the Saugeen Maitland Women's Hockey Association is already getting players in place for 2006- 2007. The tryouts for PeeWees, born in 1994 or 1995 will be held I p:m. Saturday April 22 and Sunday, April 23 in Lucknow. There will be another tryout in Durham, at 7 p.m., Friday. April 28. The dates are the same for the Bantam tryouts. This is for players born in 1992 or 1993. The times on those days are 2 p.m. in Lucknow and 8 p.m. in Durham. Girls born in 1989, 1990 or 1991 are eligible to play for the Midget teams. Tryouts will be held at 3 p.m. on the Lucknow dates and at 9 p.m. in Durham. Cost for the first two age groups is Brussels Midget girls played their WOAA year-end tournament in Wallace April I and 2. The first game was Saturday morning against Walkerton. Brussels lost a competitive effort 2-1. Lacey McArter scored Brussels' only goal. Saturday afternoon Brussels had a more rewarding game winning against Beaver Valley 1-0. Lindsey Watson scored assisted by Jory Uyl. Sunday afternoon it was the third and final game against Saugeen Shores. Many of the girls's fans mentioned that this was one of the team's best efforts of the season. There was exciting action from all Brussels players and the squad won 4-2. Scoring were Ashley Sholdice, Uyl, and Colleen Aitchison with two. What a way to end the season. $10, while the tryout cost for Midget is $15.
