FROM BRUSSELS
Lots of family and friends were
visiting, enjoying the long weekend
and each other. Balls of various
kinds were being used as the sun
made outdoor living a must.
Working at lawns and gardens was
another favourite activity as well as
leisurely strolls about the village.
Meal preparation is always a big
part of company coming and Easter
is one of the big ones to celebrate.
Menus vary from family to family

The news 'At the Branch'
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a quiet week at the Brussels
Legion Branch giving everyone time
to rest before the busy couple of
months ahead.
The Thursday night darters only
had 10 players taking aim at the
hoards.
First place was won by Kaye
Smith, Norm Dobson and John
Harrison. The second-place team
ssas Gary Dauphin and Sandra
Josling.
Another skunk for the year was
earned by Mary Dickson and Harry
Smith. High starts were by Harrison
with 101 and Sandra Josling with
70.
Saturday there was a private
birthday party at the Branch.
The Friday night supper this week
is sweet and sour meatballs.
Next Tuesday, April 25 is the
general meeting and elections.
Comrades are asked to attend and
support those who are running.
The major fundraiser for the
spring is the Silent Auction being
held this year May 5 and 6.
Comrades are asked to reply with
their donations by April 30.
The summer fish fry schedule is
starting to fill, so Comrades will be
called on to help out. Last year the
fish fries sustained the Branch over a
rough summer and it is hoped the
same happens this year.
Attendance in the Branch really
drops off in the summer and we wish
more Comrades would drop in for a
visit.
Branch condolences go out to
relatives of Comrade Doug Lowe
who passed away a few weeks ago.
Don't forget the Cadet Corps
breakfast will be held at the Branch
on Sunday. Come out and support
the corps who are raising funds for a
trip to Kingston.

The village churches were
celebrating Easter on Sunday,
reminding ourselves of the miracle
of the life of Jesus and all that
entailed. Without the story of the
risen Christ, a story that has been
repeated for over 2,000 years the
baby of Bethlehem would have been
just another baby born a baby, just
like all of us. No Easter story — no
Christmas.
But the story lives and so the
Christians of the world celebrate
with flowers and songs, eggs and
butterflies.
You know age is sneaking up on
you, no make that it ran over you,
when you see the little Hall kids
home and their babies are real little
people. It doesn't seem that long ago
that Dianne and Dan were checking
on the activities of my guys. Oh my!
Good news from the Ministry of
Citizenship and Immigration —
Leona Armstrong has been
recognized for her many volunteer
hours. She was nominated by
District #8 of the Ontario
Agricultural Societies and received a
20-year volunteer service pin and
certificate at a reception this spring.
Congratulations Leona.
Someone should have told them
about all the other volunteer
organizations you also support and
given you a pin for each of those as
well. On second thought that
wouldn't work. You couldn't walk
and carry them all. Recognition of
work well done.
The Presbyterian church is using
the rest of April for fun and
fundraising. April 22 at 1 p.m. is the
start of their live auction. Check
their ad for times to view and bid on
their silent auction selection. Lots of
good stuff I'm sure.
On April 30, after you mail your
income tax papers go to the
Presbyterian Church for supper.
You'll feel a lot better and they'll be
glad to serve you.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
