MCF hosts annual auction
Movie night

at the Carry-on Cloggers "Reel Movies" presentation at the
Blyth Memorial Hall on Sunday, April 9. Singers and
dancers performed songs from classic movies such as
Grease, The Lion King, Cinderella and Annie. All of the
proceeds from the show go towards the Cheshire Everyday
Dreams, Town and Country Support Services and St.

At the Branch

The Brussels Legion Branch was
busy with its usual functions this
week including Cadets, and darts.
The nominating committee met on
Tuesday evening to firm up the
positions for this coming year. A few
positions on committees remain
open, so a few more calls will have
to be made.
There were 13 darters hitting the
boards on Thursday evening. The
first-place team was Sharon
Robbins, Lawrence and John
Harrison. A tie for second place was
won by Sheron Stadelmann and
Adam Smith over the team of
Catrina Josling and John
Stadelmann.
High shots were by Gord Jacklin
shooting 127 and Sheron shooting
112. The high starts were by John
Harrison with 90 and Sheron with
91. The high finishes were by Adam
with 90 and Sandra Josling with 68.
Darts are Thursdays at 8 p.m.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was enjoyed
by a great crowd. Don Dunbar
entertained by playing the organ.
It's Good Friday this week, so the
Branch will be closed.
Saturday saw two functions at the
Branch. The regular bi-weekly
euchre had 12 tables at play. There
was a tie for first place and prizes
were split between Helen Dobson
and Dorothy Dilworth and Janet
Mathers and Irlma Edgar.
The second-place team was
Clarence Hoy and Norine Park.
There was another tie for third place
between couple Ed and Marie
Stewart and pair Jean Bewley and
The Brubachers of Ethel
Restaurant & Bakery
Doris McCall. The low prize went to
Edythe Beacom and Geraldine Dale.
The lucky lone hand prizes went to
Maxine F. and and Carmen Pollock.
Euchre is every two weeks.
Upstairs at the Branch was the
Bluewater Ladies' League single
darts playoffs. There were 15 ladies
taking part and they had a great day.
The Sunday night dance saw over
100 enjoy the music of the Country
Versatiles. Lunch and door prizes
capped off the evening. Dances are
every two weeks.
The general meeting and elections
are April 25 so mark your calendar
to attend at 8 p.m.
Reservations are being taken for
the Mother's Day dinner. Dinner will
be served from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
To be assured of a table, call the
Branch at 887-6562 or Jo-Ann at
887-6570 for your reservation.
Reservations are not required, but
for preparation purposes, they are
appreciated.

The Maitland Conservation
Foundation (MCF) will host its
annual dinner and auction on April
28 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre in Brussels at 6
p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be
obtained from Foundation members,
by dropping by the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority (MVCA)
office in Wroxeter or calling 335-
3557.
This year's dinner and auction
promises to be a splendid evening,
with dinner provided by Beth Earl
Catering of Ethel. Those in
attendance will be musically
entertained by the Beard Family of
Wingham and renowned singer Don
Sills. Raffles as well as silent and
live auctions will be held.
The live auction will be called by
Dave Johnston of Listowe.l. Prizes
include handcrafted items such as
quilts, garden accessories and
wooden bowls, golf and
entertainment packages, a week's
stay at a Black's Point cottage, and
an original watercolour painting by
William Creighton of Lucknow, to
name but a few.
"Foundation members are very
excited this year about the response
from our community partners," said
John Chippa, chair of the
Foundation, "We've had some
fantastic donations from businesses,
merchants and individuals for the
auction. It's that generosity that
enables the Authority to keep the
Wawanosh Nature Centre open and
viable."
The MCF is a registered, non-
profit, charitable organization
through which individuals and
businesses can make donations to
help protect and enhance the forests,
water and soil of the watershed. The
MCF was established in 1975. Its
members and board of directors are
volunteers who work to support the

raised $21,500 in support of
conservation education. Donations
of items for this year's raffles and
auctions are welcome, and tax
