Huronlea residents attend Brussels UCW
The Brussels United Church
Women met at Huronlea with a good
many residents joining them.
With Betty Campbell at the piano
many old familiar songs were sung
before and during the meeting.
Nelva Scott opened the meeting
with a call to worship.
Karen Cardiff and Mary Bone
were in charge of the program. They
introduced a variety of entertainment
BEATRICE MARGARET
NIVINS
Beatrice Margaret Nivins of Nile
passed away peacefully at
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital on Friday, April 7, 2006 in
her 71st year.
Beatrice was born on July 17,
1935 in Kincardine, a daughter of
the late William E. and Charlotte E.
(Bradley) Hayes.
She leaves behind her husband of
50 years, whom she cherished
dearly. Beatrice farmed with her
husband Alex in West Wawanosh
Twp., since their marriage until she
passed away.
Beatrice is survived by her six
children Jim (Sharon) of Ashfield,
Sandra (John Pridham) of Mitchell,
Ralph (Cheryl) of Dungannon,
Alice (Cam) Yuill of Belgrave,
Gerald (Evelyn) of Mississauga and
Wayne (Krista) of Caledon.
Beatrice will be sadly missed by her
12 beautiful grandchildren
Camerra, David, Claren, Matthew,
including Don Chesher who played
You'll Never Walk Alone and I
Believe on the clarinet, accompanied
by Karen Cardiff. Sadie TenPas and
Heather Bone gave their speeches on
Embarrassing Moments and
Underwear respectively. Tod e
Cardiff sang Over the Rainbow
accompanied by Karen Cardiff and
Christine Bone danced the Sailor's
Hornpipe.
Janine, Rachel, Rebecca, Brianna,
Jerome, Candace, Conner and
Colleen. There are six surviving
brothers and one sister: Earl,
Samuel (Jean), James (Marion),
Burton (Judy), Marie Wonch,
Alvery (Marjorie) and Harold (Pat),
several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-
law, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers
Nathaneal, William John, Charles,
George, Nelson and sisters Agnes,
Bessie and Alice.
Friends were received at
McCallum and Palla Funeral Home,
Goderich on Sunday from 2 - 4 and
7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was
held at the funeral home on
Monday, April 10 at 1 p.m. Rev.
Sandra Evan-Jones officiated.
Interment was in Dungannon
Cemetery.
Donations to the Canadian
Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke
Foundation or Dungannon Senior
Citizens Centre would be gratefully
acknowledged.
Mrs. Scott read the scripture from
Luke 16: 1-8 followed by the
reading He is Not Here. Prayer
closed the meeting.
Lunch was served by Audrey
Cardiff and helpers.
After seeing the residents back to
their rooms the business portion of
Melville Presbyterian Church,
Brussels will be holding its Time
Treasure and Talent Auction Friday
and Saturday, April 21 and 22.
This bi-annual event features a
two-day silent auction taking place
between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the
Friday and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on
Saturday. A live auction under the
direction of Brussels auctioneer
Greg Wheeler will begin at 1 p.m.
Both the silent and live auctions
will offer a special selection of
unique and interesting gifts and
talents.
This year's auction special is a
handmade quilt especially sewn for
the event by a group of Brussels
ladies. Also available during both
sections of the auction will be items
as different as antiques, home
baking, a stay at a Lake Huron
cottage, dinner at Queen's Park or
the Parliamentary Dining Room in
Ottawa, and much much more.
There will be a food booth open
on Saturday featuring beef on a bun,
as well as the usual selection of
homemade pies.
The auction will take place at the
church located at 55 William St.,
Brussels. Anyone wishing to
the meeting opened with the UCW
Purpose. Minutes were read by
secretary Joan Bernard and
approved. The treasurer's report was
read by Isabelle Wheeler and
adopted.
It was decided to give the stewards
money toward the mission and
contribute items, time, or talents to
the auction should contact Margaret
Mclnroy at 523-9634.

stewards and from the carpet
committee. Notes of thanks were
read from several families in regards
to funeral lunches.
The garden party set for May 28
was discussed.
There is a UCW meeting in
Wingham is on May 16 at 7 p.m.
Thanks was given to Audrey
Cardiff and Jean Davidson and
committee for the great ,i,ob on the
Terry Sumsion concert at the church.
The next meeting will be in the
form of a potluck supper on
