THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 13, 2006. Obituaries MARGARET BAECHLER On Tuesday, April 4, 2006, Margaret Baechler of Goderich passed away in her 93rd year. She was born in Morris Twp., Huron County, on Nov. 14, 1913, the daughter of Alex Russell and Florence Storey. She graduated in nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital, London and from Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in obstetrics. After graduation she had a long and rewarding career at St. Joseph's Hospital in London where she was head nurse in the delivery room for many years. She distinguished herself in her field and was recognized for her excellence when she retired from her position at St. Joseph's Hospital in 1964. The Margaret Russell Trust Fund was established by a group of doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital to provide a prize for the student obtaining the highest grade in obstetrics in their graduation year. She married Dr. John Kelly on June 24, 1964. They resided in Brussels until his untimely death in November of 1965. On June 24, 1989 Margaret married John Edward "Ted" Baechler of Goderich. Mr. Baechler predeceased Margaret in January of 2003. Margaret was also predeceased by her brother Lewis Russell and sisters Catherine "Kate" Wilson and Clara Haig. She is survived by one sister Hannah Weiss of Florida and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home, Cambria Road at East Street Goderich on Thursday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Rev. John Jasica and Rev. Mi,:hael Prieur conducted the funeral mass at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Goderich, on Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Interment was in Brussels Catholic Cemetery. Donations to the charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged. Parish prayers were held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. NICHOLENA AITKEN Mrs. Nick Aitken of Wingham passed away at Wingham and District Hospital on Thursday, April 6, 2006. She was 90. The former Nick Thompson was the beloved wife of the late William Aitken who predeceased her in 1993. She was the dear mother of Fran and Ron Johnson of Toronto, Bob and Carol Ann Aitken of Cannington, Lynda MacDonald of Pefferlaw and Andy and Pat Aitken of Toronto. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Mrs. Aitken was also survived by her brother Ned and his wife Doris Thompson of Mitchell. Her parents Robert and Elizabeth (Coey) Thompson, seven brothers -and two sisters predeceased her. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral chapel on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Bernard Skelding officiated. Interment was in Blyth Union Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. WILLIAM M. (BILL) HOY William Murray Hoy passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on Monday, April 3, 2006. He was in his 72nd year. Bill was a kind and cheerful man who will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Bill is survived by his wife Helen and his daughters, Catherine (Jose Molina) and Caroline (Christopher Kelly). He was a cherished grandfather to Madeleine, Erin and Elizabeth Kelly. He is also survived by his brothers Lynn (Annabelle) and Harold, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Bill will be missed by Helen's sons, Glenn (Anne), Paul and Jeff (Kathy) Bryce and seven step-grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin McLachlan), David, Jackie, Daniel, James, Laura and Megan. Bill was predeceased by his parents Wilfred Hoy and Jessie Brown and his first wife Roberta. Bill was born and raised on a farm near Ethel. In 1962 he married Roberta Stewart. Bill and Roberta made their hoine in Guelph where they raised their two daughters. For 29 years Bill was an employee of Eastern Farm Machinery. Bill actively supported his family's musical endeavours, particularly with the Eramoga Youth Choir and the Knox Presbyterian Church choirs. Bill remained active in the life of Knox Church after Roberta's passing in 1990. In 1995, Bill married Helen Bryce (nee Maas) and made a new home in Kitchener. Helen compassionately cared for Bill in their home through his difficult illness. Bill was an avid gardener and historical car enthusiast. At age 65 he discovered his passion for downhill skiing and was a weekday regular at the Chicopee Ski Club. Bill and Helen loved to dance and were members of the Harmony Club. Friends were received at the Wall- Custance Funeral Home and Chapel, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Thursday (2-4 and 7-9 p.m.). . The funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 20 Quebec St., Guelph, Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m. followed by a ceilidh in the church hall. Interment was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church, 20 Quebec St., Guelph, N1H 2T4 or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, PO Box 31233 Stn Brm B, Toronto, M7Y 5M1. SHOY JEN SEID Shoy Jen Seid, formerly of Goderich passed away at. Yee Hong Nursing Home, Markham on Monday, April 3, 2006. She was in her 92nd year. She was the beloved wife of the late Kam Gnok Seid and dear mother of James and Janet Seid of Goderich. She was the loving grandmother of Allan Seid, Connie (Darrin) Seid- Noble, Michael Seid, all of Toronto, Julie (Peter McDonnell) Seid of Stratford. She was the great- grandmother of Lauryn and Allysa Noble. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
