The teams were divided into six
pools and each pool played a round
robin format to determine who
would qualify for the next round.
The first game for the Lightning
was played Friday at noon against
Ottawa NCCP, which they handily
defeated 3-0.
Alison Quennell scored the first
goal unassisted. The second goal
came from a rebound scored by
Kendall Whtifield and assisted by
Alson McNulty and Joelle Reid.
Stacey Scholten dumped the puck
into the empty net with 12 seconds
left in the game to seal the victory.
Syd Brown was very strong in net
as she recorded the shutout.
The next action for the girls was
Friday night against Brampton, a
team they had previously met in
other tournaments, but had difficulty
gaining points. For the first time this
season, they were able to earn a
point, as they tied them 1-1.
Courtney Sutherland scored the lone
goal on a pass from Janette Hammel.
The first game played Saturday
morning was against Coburg. The
Lightning played a solid game, and
came out on top by a score of 3 - 2.
The first goal came from the point,
on a goal by Britney Petei s.
Whitfield and Scholten picked up
the assists. Quennell showed some
handi-work around the net as she
scored the second point of the game.
It is unknown who received the
assist as it was awarded to Erin
Burns, who unfortunately stood on
the sidelines with a fractured foot.
Reid was in the right place at the
right time as the game winner
bounced off her head and into the net
on a shot taken by Quennell. Peters,-
also earned an assist.
The Saugeen Maitland team ended
with the most points in their pool (in
fact, with the second most points in
round robin play of all pools, next to
the Toronto Aerors). With their five
points, they were able to advance to
the next round.
Their next opponent was the home
team from Mississauga. Although it
was their fourth game in 26 hours,
the Lightning played another great
game, and won by a score of 2-0.
Sutherland scored on a pass from
Tara O'Reilly, then Peters scored her
second of the tournament from the
point.
Cassy Stafford earned the shutout.
The semi-final game was played
Sunday morning against their league
rivals, the Hamilton Hawks. The
Hawks scored a powerplay goal at
the end of the first period to lead the
Lightning 1-0.
Although it was a very even game.

Lightning was unable to get one by
the Hawks' goalie until the last 24
