THANK YOU
The Brussels Optimist Club
would like to thank everyone
who supported our
Dinner & Auction on April 18
Thanks to the many businesses and individuals who generously
donated items and/or money to the auction. Also thanks to the
great people who bought tickets and came to help out in the
bidding and buying of the many articles that were for sale.
Thanks also to Beth Earl Catering for another job well done.
Without the great support of the Brussels community we could
not have the success that we do. Thanks again to all of you in
this generous community.

The Brussels Optimist Club held its annual dinner and
auction at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community
Centre on Saturday, April 8. Everyone had an opportunity
to peruse the diverse variety of goods before making an
offer during the silent auction. Karen Hastings takes a
closer look at one of the items. (Heather Crawford photo)

We're in Holy 'Week — the-time
that the Christians of the world
rethink the Bible stones of the last
week of the life of Jesus. It means
that the season of Lent is coming to
an end and that Easter will soon be
here.
Palm branches are mentioned in
the story and that is one of the things
that we do to celebrate this story. In
our church a parade with palm
branches waving is a part of the story
that we visualize. At lunches this
week as a community the stories of
the week continue as the Ministerial
offers Lenten lunches for our body
and soul.
Only imagination can take us to
the rest of the events that happened
so many years ago — the torture, the
cross, the tomb and finally Easter
morning.
As Christians we live by the
example of Jesus. Like all the major
religions of the world it can be very
simple — love your God, love
yourself and love others. The
problems start when we try to tell
others how to live their faith. -
Morley told council in reporting on
the meeting.
The problem was that the London
dispatch centre might have as many
as five county ambulances outside
the county in patient transfers at
once, leaving one ambulance to
cover the whole county.
"Our response times were getting
terrible," Morley said.
"We're still in the business of
doing in-county patient transfers,"
he said. Once the situation was
explained to others at the
meeting concerns were allayed, he
said.
served by the lunch committee

The next meeting is April 19 with
Betty from Bayfield as speaker. She
will be bringing along some of her
books. •
Members can make donations for
her group home if they choose, as
well as the regular amount given to
cover the expense of driving to
Brussels.
The May meeting will be May 17
with Dr. Heather Percival from the
Seaforth clinic speaking.
The 17th annual Huron Perth
Diabetes Day held April 12 in
Mitchell was discussed.
Applications for this event were
available for anyone wishing to
attend.
The bikes and skateboard and
folks walking are one of the nicest
parts of spring, to see people out and
about lets you know that life goes
on. Some of the dark days of winter
you wonder if anyone is still around.
The community is once again the
benefactor of the hard work of the
Optimist Club. Their party last
Saturday was fun with good food,
good company and lots of prizes to
win,and items to bid on.
For the Club members it was a
succes§. Their park account took a
nice step forward. Thanks from all
the _ future park users for your
continued interest.
The Culture Club looked good this
week as they took their wives to
breakfast. They were celebrating the
hockey win and saying thanks to
Mae Ebel for sharing Lou with them
over the years.
