Dietz provided council with a
financial statement showing receipts
of $26,924 and expenditures of
$22,701.54 with a net surplus of
$4,222.46.

Brussels may be receiving a
tourism kiosk this summer.
Ralph Laviolette, the Huron East
economic development officer
recommended Huron East council
support the construction of two
tourism kiosks in Brussels and
Seaforth.
The economic development officer
advised that Huron East serves as a
gateway to the county at its eastern
and northern entrances for traffic
coming from the Toronto,
Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo
areas en route to the Lake Huron
cottage and tourist areas.
Kiosks at these two entrances
would give opportunity to divert
traffic to Huron East and for county
events, services and activities, he
said.
In Brussels, the Trust Fund
committee is planning a 2006 project
for a gazebo near the library to
incorporate the elements of the kiosk
recommended but is yet to be built.
At Seaforth, municipal staff
approached the Seaforth Lions Club
and set up an un-attended gazebo
during 2005. It was the
recommendation of the economic
development committee that the
initial 2005 effort be advanced to
provide a staffed kiosk that allows
provision for display racks for more
information, training in welcoming
and ambassador skills, and a desk
and chair for professionalism in
appearance and function, or that it be
left alone until it can be set-up with
the competence and attractiveness
expected by a discretionary-income
visitor to the area.
The recommendation of the
economic development committee
was that the municipality encourages
and funds in whole or part,
provisions for tourism kiosks in
Seaforth and Brussels. They also
recommended that summer staffing
for the kiosks be included in the
application to Service Canada for
summer job placements and that the
kiosks scheme also be advanced in
an OSTAR-RED proposal for setting
up permanent visitor information
sites over a three-year period.
It was the recommendation of
council that the economic
development committee should
complete a detailed report as to the
location, construction of the
proposed kiosks along with the
financial implications to the
municipality and that this report
should be presented at the next
regular meeting.
