PAUL COOK ELECTRIC Home, Farm & Commercial Wiring BELGRAVE 357-1537 THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 6, 2006. PAGE 25. Huron East council reviews official plan changes Huron East clerk-administrator, Jack McLachlan reviewed with council the proposed changes recommended in the official plan amendment No. 2 at the March 21 meeting. He advised that the recommendations were as a result of the review in preparation of the proposed zoning by-law and that a public meeting would be held in the very near future to discuss the amendment and the by-law. Copies of the proposed zoning maps will be presented to each of the representatives of the various boards once they have been completed by the county planning department. *** Thirteen residents of Front Road in Tuckersmith attended the meeting and asked council to determine if it was their intention to proceed to hard top Front Road from Kippen Road to Vanastra Road. The group was advised that council had called for tenders for the hard topping of the whole of Front Road broken down into two portions - firstly from Kippen Road to the green bridge and secondly from the green bridge to Vanastra Road. Funds had been included in the proposed 2006 budget and the proposal was for a tar and chip road similar to Morrison Line. The residents advised council that they would hope they would proceed to hardtop Front Road this forthcoming construction year. *** Council endorsed the resolution of the Municipality of Durham requesting the Government of Ontario to take immediate action to remove barriers to family physicians By Stew Slater Special to The Citizen A pair of large hats are being passed to those who value recreation in Huron County, as fundraising begins for the refurbishment of the outdoor track at Goderich District Collegiate Institute (GDCI) and the gymnasium floor at Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS) in Clinton. Key to the efforts is the involvement of the Foundation for Enriching Education Perth Huron, a charitable organization in partnership with the Avon Maitland District School Board but operating at arms-length with a separate board of directors. Foundation executive director Lynda McGregor delivered her annual presentation to Avon Maitland trustees on Tuesday, March 28, and cited the GDCI track who wish to relocate their medical practices to Ontario from other provinces. *** Council endorsed the resolution of the County of Grey and Owen Sound urging the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the provincial government to develop a plan to begin to address the municipal financial crisis, by contributing to municipalities, beginning in 2006, a provincial commitment to Ontario's as one of its key projects for 2006. Following an earlier statement by Goderich/Northwest Huron trustee Emily Milley — in the "Good News" section of the agenda — that GDCI students recently took on the challenge of helping raise $50,000 towards the track, McGregor noted such a significant project can often create a "bump" in the size of the Foundation's annual revenues. But she noted all the money is only passed through the Foundation because it has the charitable status not afforded the school board or secondary school, and is then directed straight to the specific project. Speaking to reporters following her presentation, McGregor explained she's also supporting the GDCI goal by acting as a fundraising consultant. Earlier in March, Avon Maitland Municipalities, of $600 million per year for the next five years, this commitment will begin to address the serious financial crisis facing municipalities in Ontario. *** A motion to support the resolution of the City of Kawartha Lakes requesting the provincial government take the necessary action to place Source Water Protection with the piinistry of Natural Resources was also defeated by council. trustees approved a Draft Capital Plan that included a $175,000 renovation of the rubberized asphalt track, which has been served for over two decades as the only suitable site for high-level track and field meets. Speaking to reporters on March 28, Avon Maitland business superintendent Janet Baird-Jackson explained corporations such as Nike, Adidas and Bell will be approached for financial support, and there will be some money coming from the school board budget for the project — particularly on an "up front" basis to make sure the work gets done over the summer of 2006, while other donations trickle in. But the fundraising campaign will also be key. At CHSS, meanwhile, fundraising is ongoing for the refurbishment of the gym floor. Sprucing up Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell presented a plaque to the Bluevale Hall board Saturday, April 1 and the Credit Union donated $1,000 towards improvements.
