Blyth Novice Reps
post 2 victories
Blyth Atoms face off against
Tiverton in playoff round
Saturday January 28 the Blyth
Tyke 1 hockey team hosted Zurich.
The game was a little one sided as
Blyth had trouble putting the puck in
the net.
Finally in the last half of the game
Cody Treble fought in front of the
net and it paid off. He slipped the
puck past the goalie.

It was a tight contest for the Blyth
Atoms when they faced Tiverton
away in the first round of playoffs
Jan. 31.
After a scoreless first period,
Tiverton took a one-goal lead into
the third, then added to the tally with
their second goal mid-way through
the period.
Determined to pull this out, Blyth
poured it on, with Drew Wood
skating in unassisted just two
minutes later to tighten the margin.
then with only five minutes
remaining Nathan Plunkett set up
Alex Peters for Blyth's tie-maker.
After 10 minutes of overtime the
game remained knotted at 2-2.
Heidi Raynard helped keep her
team in a position to win with solid
goaltending.
The Blyth Atom Reps played
Tiverton on Feb. 4 and came out on
winning side of a 4-2 score.
With home ice advantage Blyth
took an early lead with Wood
scoring in the first. Assists went to
Braydon Whitfield and Wyatt Carey.
In the period's dying seconds
however, Tiverton tied it.
Alex Peters put his team ahead
again with an unassisted effort in the
second period. Jordan Button
handed off to Peters who set up the
play for Caroline McDowell to score
giving the team a nice advantage.
Blyth was Brendan Howson.
Brussels travelled to Blyth
on Saturday Feb. 4. Blyth started the
scoring after 10 minutes of
play. The goal was scored by
Amy Boyce assisted by Brendan
Howson.
Brussels came back with a goal
scored by Tiffany Deitner
unassisted.
Tiverton, however, closed the gap
getting one by goalie Kennan
MacDonald just before the buzzer.
Peters provided some insurance
with a third-period goal, but it wasn't
needed as the team held their
opponents to two goals. McDowell
assisted on Peters' final goal.

The Blyth Novice Reps played
two games against Milverton.
On Feb. 2 the squad hosted their
opponents and after a tight match
sent them home in defeat.
Ashley Higgins gave Blyth an
early lead in the first with an
unassisted effort.
Milverton soon answered back to
tie before the buzzer, then .started
the next period by taking the lead.
Dustin Pennington popped one
into the visitors' net shortly after to
tie the game. Then Curtis Raynard
and Mackenzie Nesbitt set up the
play for Higgins to net her second of
the game, giving Blyth a one-point
lead to take into the third.
With just over six minutes on the
clock Higgins and Nesbitt handed
off to Raynard who scored what
proved to be some nice insurance as
Milverton answered with one of
their own a minute later.
The game ended 4-3 for
Blyth.
Dalton Carey did a good job in net
for the hosts.
The Novices travelled to
Milverton on Feb. 3 and handed
their hosts a 3-1 loss.
After a scoreless first period
Milverton bulged the twine mid-
way into the second. This seemed to
inspire the visitors, however as they
came back with three quick goals.
Scoring were Raynard, Pennington
The Saugeen Maitland AA
Lightning played the last game
of the regular season 'Schedule
on Saturday, Feb. 4 in
dHowick.
The Lightning defeated the
Kitchener Rangers 1-0. Kendall
and Josh Van Soest.
Once again Carey thwarted many
Milverton attempts to keep his team
in the game.
Blyth Novices pulled out two
victories in close games against
Brussels and Monkton recently.
On Jan. 27 the team travelled to
Brussels and edged the hosts 3-2.
Dalton Carey performed well
between the"pipes for Blyth.
Brussels got on the board in the
first, but a two-goal period had
Blyth taking the lead into the final
stretch. Scoring were Raynard and
VanSoest, with helpers to VanSoest
and Pennington.
Nesbitt gave the team some
insurance early in the third off a set-
up by VanSoest. This proved
fortunate as Brussels pulled within
one a minute later. That was all for
both sides, however, giving Blyth a
notch on the victory side.
Two days later the team was on
the road again to Monkton.
The Novices got off to a solid start
with Pennington scoring two in the
first, while the squad shut down the
hosts. Ryan Plunkett and Dylan
Walton assisted.
Brendan Hallahan went in alone
in the second period to put the team
up by three.
Monkton got on the board late in
the third and sent Blyth home with a
3-1 victory.
Whitfield scored the only goal on a
pass from Joelle Reid. Cassy
Stafford earned the shutout.
The girls will play in the Silver
Stick tournament this weekend in
Sarnia, then will begin provincial
playdowns.
Blyth's next two goals were scored
by Justin Rodger with one being
assisted by Amy Boyce.
Many scoring chances were had
by the passing and shooting combo
of Drew Bromley and Hunter Dale
with none of them going past the
goalie.
Making some great saves in net for
Blyth was Samantha Kerr.
