THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2006. PAGE 11.
Welcome back to Ed McClure
who spent a week in the sun on San
Andres Island off the coast of
Nicaragua. Ed explored the island
which is only 28 miles around. It
was a hot week with just a little rain
and the San Louis Resort had nice
rooms and lots of good food.
Returning from a week at
Collingwood and skiing are Neil and
Marie McGavin. Grandpa Neil was
joined on the slopes by different
children and grandchildren on
various days.
Jeff McGavin, along with Jacob,
Mackenzie and Teagan, who took a
few short lessons, caught on to
skiing amazingly fast. The Melady
family of Pat, Cathy, Brent, Alex,
and Shayna had their day with Neil
and enjoyed it greatly. The Kelso
faniily of Bryan, Heather, Hayden,
Jessica, Jared and Emma were able
to spent two days with Neil and
Marie. Neil reports a great time
skiing with the little ones and
picking them up out of the snow.
The Land Improvement
Contractors of Ontario held their
On the fourth Sunday after
Epiphany, those attending Duff's
United Church were greeted by Neil
McGavin and Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky.
In the time for the young at heart
Rev. Joan showed pictures of famous
people such as Tiger Woods, Cheryl
Pounder and Ghandi. The pictures
represented people the children may
be in awe of for their
accomplishments in respect for their
gifts. People often talk about holding
Jesus and God in awe but they also
must live their lives in awe and
respect the world.

annual convention in London last
week, at the Lamplighter Inn. There
were a dozen attending from Walton:
Ron and Betty McCallum, Paul and
Dianne McCallum, Chad and
Crystal McCallum, Ken McCallum
and Meagan and Bill and Sharon
McClure.
Paul McCallum is past president
for another year.
The ladies enjoyed a presentation
on organic products and natural
ingredients while the men attended
the business and improvements in
technology sessions. They had a
great few days.
Our best wishes go out to Lloyd
Appleby who suffered a fall at home.
No serious injuries, but he was kept
in Clinton hospital for a few days.
We hope he's out and about real
soon in the community.
Huronlea has seen another Walton
resident join the group. Catharine
Baan is now there and joins former
residents of the 17th of Grey, Irma
Williamson and Malinda Johnston.
Congratulations to Abby
McGavin, who was nominated as an
Ontario Community Newspaper
Association Junior Citizen of the
Year. Abby is an extremely lovely
young lady who is well deserving of
this nomination and her special
cause of collecting coats for the
homeless and her participation and
involvement in community. There
will be 12 youths, out of 130
nominated, chosen for the award,
and I'm sure all Abby's Walton
friends are rooting for her.
Jo-Ann McDonald read the
scripture from Romans.
Rev. Joan started her reflection
asking why bad things happen to
good people.
"Why does God allow this to
happen, who do we blame?" God's
love she said, does not mean
protection from all the bad in the
world. God's presence and love are
here through the tragedy in church,
family and others. People are not
alone.
The offering was collected by
Karen Hoegy and Brian Wilbee.
Coffee and conversation was
enjoyed by the congregation
Congrats again Abby.
Celebrations abounded for
birthday girl, Marie Coutts, this past
week. She enjoyed a birthday dinner
with Ross and Marg Bennett on
Friday evening, a birthday lunch at
Anna Mae's in Millbank with Allan
and Karen Carter and Ross and Marg
Bennett and others on Saturday, a
birthday luncheon at Walton Inn
with Marilyn McDonald, Mary
Humphries, Anne Ryan, Audrey
Hackwell, Kathleen Williamson,
Ross and Marg Bennett, Leona
McDonald and Jeanne Kirkby, on
the next Friday and on Saturday had
tickets to the Tommy Hunter show in
Blyth.
The Walton Inn birthday bunch
also celebrated Audrey Hackwell's
belated birthday and an early
birthday for Marilyn McDonald at
the same party as Marie's.
A speedy recovery to Marylou
Driscoll, who was hurt while out
helping with the cattle. A beast took
exception to her presence and tossed
her out of its way. She suffered some
broken ribs and will be quite sore for
awhile.
Returning from an ice fishing trip
to North Bay were Mike and Kelly
Boven, cousin Jeremy, Joe Ryan,
brothers-in-law (current and to be),.
Terry Sloan and Kevin Meyers, and
Harold Bridge. They had a great
weekend catching perch, pickerel
and pike.
The best angler was Mike Boven
catching an eight-lb. pike, which
they devoured in one meal.

There were around 40 congregants
participating in the bowling at
Molesworth Bowling Lanes on
Saturday evening. Glenda Morrison
did an excellent job planning the
event.
A couple of men reported being
winners, Brian Black and Jim Cook.
Any new ideas for social events
are appreciated. Just let Glenda
know your ideas.
There will be a silent auction
