Mildmay was host to a broomball
tournament held Jan. 21 and 22, for
the Atom, PeeWee, Bantam and
Midget level.
The Blyth Rollers were scheduled
to play at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday
morning. Due to the poor road
conditions many players were late
getting to the arena, so several of the
players filled in the bench after the
starting whistle blew.
The Rollers first opponents were
the Mildmay Green Hawks. This
team was very strong and kept
digging for the ball and intercepting
Blyth passes. Emily Uyl started out
covering the net for the Rollers and
made some great saves before being
replaced by Murray Dale.
Mildmay scored with a minute
and a half left in the first period,
from a nice pass around the corner
of the net.
In the second period Mildmay had
a breakaway and scored. The Green
Hawks scored again when the ball
rolled through several players and
crossed the goal line. Mill:1May won
this game 3-0.

shutout for Blyth's goalie Derek
Logtenberg.
The title Man of the Match was
given to two brothers, Chad and
Kurtis Gorel. •
The third game was played on Jan.
22 against the same team. This was a
different game as Innisfil played a
very strong game.
There were scoring opportunities
from both teams, but there was no
score at the end of the second period,
even though there was a lot of
scrambling in front of the Innisfil net
during the last minute of the game.
This was the second tournament
shutout for Logtenberg.
During the first shift of overtime,
Innisfil on Saturday afternoon. Dale
suited up in the goalie gear for the
Rollers and made•some great plays
to keep the Rollers in the game.
In spite of all of the effort put into
making good passes and digging for
the ball, neither team scored in the
first period.
Innisfil received a penalty halfway
through the second period, but
unfortunately so did the Rollers a
few seconds later, so lost their
powerplay advantage.
Blyth was digging to get the ball
out of their end when the ball was
passed from behind the net and
Innisfil intercepted the pass. After
getting control of the ball, they took
a shot on the net and scored.
Blyth battled back and had a few
breakaways, but Innisfil put a stop
each attempt to score. This was an
extremely close game, but Innisfil
won 1-0.

proud to bring home the gold.
Prior to the weekend tournament
the Kings travelled to Seaforth on
Jan. 19 to play the Spitfires.
Seaforth received the first goal of
the game during the first period,
after the ball rolled off the goalie's
glove and over the goal line. Blyth
had some breakaways, but they were
intercepted by Seaforth's strong
defence.
Just before the first period was
over there was some scrambling in
front of the Blyth net. As Blyth tried
to draw the ball away from the net, it
accidentally crossed the line. -
Seaforth scored on a breakaway in
the second period.
Blyth's forward Derek DeBoer
had a breakaway and scored a goal
for the Rollers. This was the Rollers'
first goal of the season, so the
coaches, ...players and parents were
very excited.
This goal gave the Rollers the
boost they needed and they ended
the game playing very strongly with
several scoring opportunities. The
final score was 3-1 for Seaforth.
The Rollers worked hard as a team
during this tournament. After this
final game slushies were enjoyed by
all to celebrate the goal and the
team's strong efforts.
