A NOTE FROM BETTY
When I think about the months in
our year January is the one that gets
the most negative thoughts. The days
of that first new month give rise to
very varied thoughts. The brand new
year ahead, the letdown after the
sharing of Christmas, the surprises
of weather are all a part of the
January thought process.
By times, those thoughts can be
darn right unsettling. So, when we
get a beautiful sunny day with no
snow or wind and none in the
forecast, the only thing to do is get
out of town and celeebrate the good
weather.
Everyone else had the same idea
by the number of cars out and about.
A call to my brother Bill on Sunday
resulted in the expected invitation to
visit Hamilton with the bonus that all
their three daughters and families
would be around. Those visits are
the ones that get the stories going
and the hints of heredity show forth
with great clarity. One wee girl holds
her head just as my mother did,
another has eyes that are a
Hetherington andanother has a walk
that has been observed for years.
Scenic drives on roads not
travelled for years provoked more
good memories of going to visit
Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins when
they lived in Galt.
Our Canada is getting ready for a
shift of position. No matter who
wins the election this week, the way
things have been done will change.
Now we just have to watch and wait
and hope that the change will be
more just and fair, less wasteful and
more efficient and effective in the
way the government uses our money.
Yes I can dream.
Make your way to the Mennonite
Church on Friday at 4:30 p.m. to be
part of •the Ministerial offering to
celebrate the churches in our
community. Fun and food will be
part of this clown ministry planned
for your enjoyment. Join the fun and
you'll not even wreck your bedtime.
I found some pretty interesting
things in the front closet when I
cleared the shelves. This is a yearly
event, probably the only resolution I
do. The hard part is reading all the
things I've saved and then deciding
where they need filed, moved, glued
or saints preserved — burned.
But the job is done and, the dining
room table is cleared so that means
mission accomplished — until next
year. Yippee!
Enjoy the last few days of this
pretty fine month.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
