This will soon be put to the test as Hullett students from Grades 1-8 are asked to participate in the Usborne Books read-a-thon. The read-a-thon will help students reap the many benefits of reading, giving them an opportunity to raise money to buy books for themselves. "This is great for this time of year," Hullett school principal Lois Tebbutt said. "If we have a snow day, it's good to know that we have [the read-a-thon] happening and we'll all be staying in and reading." Tebbutt said the read-a-thon is part of the school's celebration of world MacVicar, "but they're excited too because they say they finally get to tap into the deep current of blues enthusiasts along the coast, spanning Grand Bend to Port Elgin". It seems they're right. The next euchre party will be held on Feb. 10. During the time at the front with the boys and girls on Jan. 15, Londesborough United Church minister Rev. Pat Cook posed the question, "What do you know about the person beside you?" It became obvious that it is impossible to know everything about someone else. However as Psalm 139 states, God knows everything about everyone. God sees the person others see and also the person on the inside. God will help each as they work hard to show their best side to those around them. The morning's responsive psalm, Psalm 139, speaks of God's omniscience. Listen, God Is Calling, was the title for Rev. Cook's message to the adults. Her supporting scripture was 1 Samuel 3: 1-10. Taking the persona of Samuel, Rev. Pat told of how his mother, Hanna, had sent him to the tabernacle for training with Eli. He/she told the story of being called one night into God's service. As a 12-year-old boy he began to hear the voice of God and doing His work. Over the next years Samuel delivered many messages for God, some very difficult. God calls very ordinary people to do His work in today's world. When hey do what is needed in their lives, attention," states MacVicar, but it was really John and Bud's knowledge and infectious enthusiasm that convinced me to act.
