Melville
to host
Burns
supper
On Jan. 29 Melville Presbyterian
Church, Brussels will take part in a
200-year-old tradition when it hosts
the Burns supper.
Held wherever Scots and
'wanabies' are in the world, the
suppers are a tribute to its poet
laureate, Rabbie Burns.
Begun soon after his death in 1796
each dinner begins with Burns'
address to a haggis, that particularly
Scottish dish, that is the centrepiece
of the evening's meal. When the
haggis has completed its ceremonial
entrance to the sound of the pipes
and been properly eulogized the
meal itself is served.
Surrounding the "Great Chieftain
o' the puddin' -racer, will be a
traditional bill of fare featuring
smoked salmon, cock-a-leekie soup
and roast beef, tatties, bashed neeps,
scones and trifle.
Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and
following dinner the guests will be
entertained with Burns' poetry,
Highland dancing and, of course, the
pipes.
Supper tickets are $12 adult and $6
for public school children. Space is
limited please call 887-9831, 887-
2664, to reserve your place.
