PAUL STECKLE
In Appreciation
"The strength of any political campaign is directly related
to the calibre of the volunteers and supporters that it is
able to attract. With that in mind, I can confidently say that
this has been my strongest campaign ever."
Paul Steckle
I am grateful to have had such a large and committed team of campaign
volunteers and supporters working on my behalf. Their energy, enthusiasm
and support has been tremendous. In recognition of that work and dedication,
I would like to invite all of my volunteers and supporters to an appreciation
celebration at the Sacred Heart Church in Wingham on Election Night.
We can watch both the national and local results as they are tabulated so join
us any time after 7:00 pm for some live music, refreshments and camaraderie.

The Wingham Women's Junior

well Jan. 4-8 at the provincial
championships in Scarborough at
the Tam Heather Curling Club.
The curlers played teams from
North Halton, Peterborough,
Brockville, Avonlea, Prescott,

record was one to six with many`of
the games decided in one end. They
were extremely pleased with their
second place in the skills
competition.
A memorable experience for them
was meeting Mike Harris, Olympic
silver medalist. As the guest speaker

The team had incredible
community support demonstrated by
the spectator attendance, the

they had a 1-6 record and came back

The club hosted the OCE Bantam
Girls Zone 14 playdowns on Jan.
14-15 with seven teams
participating from Listowel,
Vanastra, Exeter, Ripley and the
local club well represented by a
team skipped by Kayla Bishop and
including Keisha Carter, Ainslie
Weishar and Jill Eadie. A good
crowd of spectators were on hand
and were amazed at the skill, great
shots and well-called games of such
young competitors, 16 and under. It
was a real treat to watch.
The Kendra Falconer rink from
Vanastra, with a bye for a win in the
first round, went on to defeat Stacey
McGregor of Ripley to advance to
the finals on the " side against the
undefeated Kayla Bishop rink of
Wingham. Bishop had wins against
Brittney Brooks, Listowel and a
real thriller come-from-behind win
against a strong Exeter team
skipped by Lana Shapton.
The Falconer-Bishop match went

down to the wire with the Falconer
rink the victor.
This relegated the Bishop rink to
the consolation final against a
rather determined young team from
Listowel skipped by Megan Droog
who had lost her first game against
Ripley and clawed her way back to
the finals with wins over Exeter and
Ripley.
Once again it went down to the
last rock with Droog the
consolation winner.

From all reports the Leanne
Elston rink represented the club
well at the provincial junior
playdowns at the Tam Heather
curling club in Scarborough. The
local girls were the only "first-
time" team in this event — with
some teams there for their third
time.
The girls played exceptionally
well — hanging in for most games,
but were only able to come up with
one win. They did show their skill
in the "skills contest" walking away
with second place in a competition
of shooting to the button.
The girls played seven 10-end
games in less than three-and-a-half
days that is as many ends as "a
once-a-week" curler curls in a
month of curling — a real
endurance.
The girls received individual
team pictures, pictures of all girls
teams together and a picture of
combined girls and boys team.
I'm sure we are going to hear
more good things from this fine
team come next year. We are
certainly proud of you Leanne,
Emily, Kayla and Brittany.
