The Blyth Rollers PeeWee
broomball team went to Mildmay to
play the Mildmay Hawks (green
shirts), on Sunday, Jan. 15.
Murray Dale suited up in the
goalie gear to cover the net for the
Rollers. His dedication to the team
was tested within the first few
minutes of the game. Mildmay took
a strong shot on the Blyth net, but
Dale stopped the ball with his face,
to keep the ball out of the net.
Rollers, forward Derek Deboer,
made some saves by diving headfirst
toward the ball and stopping it with
a couple of ground slides.
Blyth did have some scoring
opportunities, forward Tori
Kellington had a nice breakaway,
but Mildmay's goalie made a great
save.
Mildmay also had some scoring
opportunities. In one instance,
Blyth's defence Emily Uyl, stopped
the opposition from scoring on a
breakaway. There was no score after
the first period.
In the second period, forward
Wyatt Bearss had a breakaway,
Lauren McNichol got into position
for a pass, but Mildmay stopped the
successful play.
Blyth continued to play a
defensive game to get the ball away
from their net. They worked hard at
passing the ball, playing their
positions and doing their best to stop
Mildmay from scoring.
At the end of the game there was
no score for either team. There was
no time for overtime play, so a tie
was called.
Dale made many fantastic saves
covering the net and deserves
recognition for his shutout.
The Rollers look forward to
participating in the Jan. 21-22 junior
. broomball tournament in Mildmay.
