Public input is encouraged and appreciated. 1. Olde Town Hall, Exeter (South Huron Municipal Office) February 8, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the County's waste management plan with a focus on the proposed use of the South Huron (Exeter) lan fill site by the municipalities of Central Huron, Goderich, and Huron East commencing in 2010, only for the use of Stage 2 capacity of the site. 2. North Huron Municipal Office, Wingham February 15, 2006 at 730 p.m. to discuss the County's waste management plan with a focus on the proposed expansion of the North Huron (Wingham) landfill site as a long-term solution for municipalities in Huron County possibly commencing in 2015 or later. The County is proposing to seek approval from the Ministry of the Environment for a Terms of Reference to conduct an Environmental Assessment for an expanded landfill site. Sports The Blyth Rollers PeeWee broomball team went to Mildmay to play the Mildmay Hawks (green shirts), on Sunday, Jan. 15. Murray Dale suited up in the goalie gear to cover the net for the Rollers. His dedication to the team was tested within the first few minutes of the game. Mildmay took a strong shot on the Blyth net, but Dale stopped the ball with his face, to keep the ball out of the net. Rollers, forward Derek Deboer, made some saves by diving headfirst toward the ball and stopping it with a couple of ground slides. Blyth did have some scoring opportunities, forward Tori Kellington had a nice breakaway, but Mildmay's goalie made a great save. Mildmay also had some scoring opportunities. In one instance, Blyth's defence Emily Uyl, stopped the opposition from scoring on a breakaway. There was no score after the first period. In the second period, forward Wyatt Bearss had a breakaway, Lauren McNichol got into position for a pass, but Mildmay stopped the successful play. Blyth continued to play a defensive game to get the ball away from their net. They worked hard at passing the ball, playing their positions and doing their best to stop Mildmay from scoring. At the end of the game there was no score for either team. There was no time for overtime play, so a tie was called. Dale made many fantastic saves covering the net and deserves recognition for his shutout. The Rollers look forward to participating in the Jan. 21-22 junior . broomball tournament in Mildmay. Scoreless game for Blyth Rollers Too close for comfort A scramble in front of the net puts the pressure on the goalie in this tournament contest post 2 big victories between the Juveniles/Typhoons and the Lost Sheep, both women's teams from Blyth. (Vicky Blyth Atoms Reps Bremner ph,,to) The Brussels Tykes had a busy schedule 'recently with tournament competition. The squad played Mount Forest on Tuesday night, Jan. 10. This proved to be a heartbreaker as the team came up short 3-1. Scoring for Brussels was Seth Nichol with an assist from Tiffany Dietner. Despite the loss Nick Zwep performed well in net. On Saturday the team played a . The Saugeen Maitland AA Lightning travelled to Humphrey, just south of Parry Sound, to play in an exhibition tournament against some of the top-ranked Midget hockey teams in Ontario. The tournament was organized as a one day event to allow top level teams to compete against each other in a round robin tournament format. The Lightning played some of its best hockey of the season. They played three high tempo, intense, physical hockey games against Clearview, Sudbury, and the top ranked team in the province, the Toronto Aeros. The first game of the day saw the Lightning get two quick goals against Clearview, and then were able to net one more to defeat the Stars 3 - 0. Kendall Whitfield opened the scoring with a blistering shot from just inside the blue line. Stacey Scholten scored the second goal when she picked up a rebound. Laurie Sinclair was awarded the assist. Michelle Kittell rounded out the scoring on a goal assisted by Allisson Quennell and Erin Burns. Cassy Stafford earned the shutout. In the second game, Sudbury defeated Toronto 3 - 0. Following a potluck lunch, and some socializing among the teams, Saugeen Maitland faced the talented Aeros. When the final buzzer sounded, the only statistics to report were the shutouts by each goalie in the 0 - 0 tie. Syd Brown was able to great game against Mitchell. This 10-3 victory restored confidence. Derrick Waechter earned a hattrick with Sean Mitchell and Nichol getting assists on his goal. Helping Logan Kellington with his hattrick were Dawson Peachey and Wyatt Machan. Peachey also scored two of his own with assists going to Kiaran Jarad and Sarah Mitchell. Getting singles were Deitner and keep her net empty, despite some peppering shots. In the fourth game of the day, Clearview outscored Sudbury 2-1. The determined, talented Lightning were ready for the Sudbury Wolves once they had been fed and watered. The Lightning scored first on a shot from the point by Shalena Dale. Tara O'Reilly earned the assist. Stafford kept the net clean for the first half of the game, before she traded off with the competent Brown. The Wolves continued to play a very physical game, and were finally successful in scoring a goal. The Lightning also applied some offensive pressure, but were unable to put the puck over the goal line. Delayna Smith. Assisting were Emily Mitchell and Ashley Stevenson. Austin Johnston had a great game in net. On Sunday morning, the squad had an early game against Minto (Harriston) and lost 5-1. The team played well despite the score with Kellington netting the only goal. Smith was solid in net. team In the dying seconds of the game, the Wolves had a clear breakaway, but Brown was able to put up the wall to stone the shooter for the second time in the period. The game ended in a 1 - 1 tie, which put the Lightning in a position of the only team who had not lost a game during the tournament. The outcome of the final game with Toronto and Clearview was :tot known but Toronto Aeros were leading 2-0 at the end of the first period. Coach Bill Weber was pleased with the team effort put up by his team. He and assistant coaches. Mike Kittell and Joe Chaffee, along with trainer Barb Dale also played a big part in the team's success. It was two big victories for Blyth Atom Reps as they faced BCH at home and Brussels away. On Jan. 7, the team travelled to Brussels and came away on the high side of a lop-sided score. Alex Peters earned a hattrick by scoring one goal in each period, unassisted in the first, while also being creditted with-two assists of his own. • -Up _ 1-0 at the end of the first, Peters scored the only goal in the second off a pass from Wyatt Carey. Peters started a Blyth onslaught in the third when Dalton Richmond handed off to Jason Meier who set up the hattrick goal. Brussels finally got on the board, seconds later, but Drew Wood, off the stick of Dylan Bromley bulged the twine soon after for Blyth's fourth goal. Despite a solid lead, the visitors never let up and added two more goals to the tally before the buzzer. Scoring were Shelsie Popp and Ryan Nesbitt, both assisted by Peters. _ Goalie Kerman MacDonald was solid in net. On Jan. 9, the team hosted BCH for a 6-0 whitewash. Peters repeated his three-period hattrick, beginning with the lone first period goal, again unassisted. In the second, Carey set up the play for Wood to skate in and score, then with seconds remaining, Peters added some insurance with an unassisted effort. Wood's second goal came early in the third from a hand-off by Jordan Button. Popp set up the play for Peters' hattrick. Not to be outdone, Wood also earned a hattrick with a goal in the dying minutes of the game. Caroline McDowell was creditted with the assist. Lightning ties top Brussels Tykes in tourney
