4-H Busy Bakers
discuss different

By Ellen Jefferson
On Friday, Jan. 6, the Busy Bakers
held their third meeting of their club,
Bread Venture, at 9 a.m. in June
Robinson's kitchen.
Before the meeting began,
Jeanette Schramm, Jolanda
Oudshoorn and Hayley Boyle began
preparing brown batter rolls, happy
face apple muffins and classic
cinnamon buns.
When all of the members arrived,
president, Maisy Jefferson began the
meeting with the pledge and read
roll call. In the business part of the-
meeting, Cathy Drennan handed out
title pages and Tina Drennan gave
the new members a sheet on their
Me Page. Meagan Higgins read the
minutes from meeting two.
Next the members checked off
different breads they had tried and
marked ones they thought included a
lot of fibre. The members discussed
different alternatives for bread in
meals. For breakfast croissants,
English muffins and bagels were
listed. Pitas, fruit bread, pizza and
hot dog buns were mentioned for
lunch and the book included batter
breads and refrigerator rolls for
supper.
The members conversed about
how batter breads differ from regular
bread and how convenient
refrigerator dough is.
Next, the members learned the
right way to freeze bread and bread
dough. The members divided into
groups to answer the review
questions Tina Drennan handed out.
While waiting for the bread to
bake, the members coloured their
books. Once the recipes were ready,
the members enjoyed them with hot
chocolate, supplied by Sophie
Jefferson. The next meeting is on
Jan. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
Ron and Alice McDowell and
family, Johnathon, Michael, and
Caroline, reported having a great
holiday in Florida during Christmas
break. They met up with Ron's
brother Wayne and his wife, Claire,
for a great visit.
Jim Glousher, of Auburn, was the
winner of an $800 food draw
sponsored by the Goderich Lions.
Sounds like company might be
coming for dinner at the Glousher
household.
A special hello and a glad-you're-
feeling better to Frances Clark.
Grace (Hallam) Cartwright and
sisters Joyce and Betty were out for
a special sisters' day out. The three
ladies keep a spot on their calenders
clear for each other.
Sounds like a perfect way to spend
a day.
The Auburn Seniors held their
Christmas dinner in at Bill and
Maxine Seerses home in Goderich.
The Seers moved to Goderich last
year and so it was especially nice
that they were able to host the group
for their annual dinner. The Seerses
put on a spectacular banquet for all
to enjoy. A short business meeting
didn't get in the way of a great social
time.
The Auburn Lions Club has
resumed Sunday breakfasts for the
January to May months. Each
second Sunday for the next several
months will be a chance to have an
exceptional breakfast and offer
support for this great local group of
volunteers at the same time. See you
there.
