Homes
to get
physio
therapist
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
The county homes for the aged
have received funding for
physiotherapy through the Ministry
of Health and Long-Term Care
under OHIP.
This information was presented
to Huron County councillors at
their Jan. 5 meeting.
Authorization has been given for
homes administrator Barb Springall
to advertise for a company or
candidate to provide the service on
a contract basis.
Springall explained to council
that it is possible the activity room
at the homes could be used for
restorative care. The therapist
would need to bring their own
equipment.
The homes will only be
responsible for monitoring and
signing off that the work had been
done and the therapist would be
paid through OHIP.
Noting that residents now
requiring physio would be
transported to a clinic, warden Rob
Morley wondered if the service was
going to save the county money.
Springall said she did not
anticipate that. While there is no
statistics on how many are
accessing physio, she expected the
numbers were low because of the
transportation factor.
