Brad Gilchrist of RR5, Lucknow
has been named, the winner of the
CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
Board's 2005 $1,000 Bursary.
Gilchrist is in his second year at
the University of Guelph in the four-
year Agricultural Science program
with an Animal Science Major. He
was nominated for the FAB Bursary
by Wingham veterinarian Allen
Hawkins, who described Gilchrist as
a student with a sustained passionate
interest in agriculture.
His main agricultural focus has
been on beef cattle. He won the
Queen's Guineas competition at the
Royal Winter Fair in 2003, using the
money to buy breeding heifers to
raise his own show cattle. Gilchrist
feels the agriculture industry is
important to the overall health of the
country. He says it's a system he
wants to be part of in the future.
The CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
board administers the FAB Bursary.
The board includes representation
from across Midwestern Ontario and
from across the agriculture and
agribusiness spectrum. It
administers both the FAB Bursary
program and the annual FAB Award
program.
Nominations for the FAB Award
are now open, with a Feb. 28, 2006
deadline.
The board also provides feedback
and input to CKNX Radio in the
station's ongoing efforts to provide a
strong service to the agriculture and
agri-business community in
Midwestern Ontario.
