2005 brings recognition for area couple

Canada.

Dr. Maarten Bokhout, the medical
director for Huronview and
Huronlea announced his decision to
retire from the position.
Media attention on avian
influenza caused frustration for a
poultry specialist with the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs, Al Dam.
The Saugeen Maitland AA Midget
girls hockey team had a successful
weekend in Waterloo as they were
the champions in the Fall Challenge
Cup Girls Hockey Tournament.
Remembrance Day ceremonies
were held in Blyth and Brussels 60
years after the end of the Second
World War.
A proposal was made to North
Huron council for a youth activity
park which would bring low-cost
activities for oung people.
A Huron East man was shot in a
hunting accident. He was struck in
his knee and taken to Wingham
hospital with non-life-threatening
injuries.
The Walton landfill site
established a recycling depot for e-
waste.
Some local residents along with
others from Huron County
petitioned the Ontario gov6rnment to
increase funding for better access to
a drug that would help treat multiple
myeloma, a rare and life-threatening
form of blood cancer.
A meeting was held to discuss
public opinion on the future of the
Brussels library. No decision was
made nor general consensus
reached.
A cell phone tower was set up on
Cranbrook line in Brussels to give
cell phone access to area residents as
well as other features such as
wireless intemet.
Justin Peters was picked to field
the net for the Ontario Hockey
Leagyes' all-star team.

Blyth Memorial Hall offers a

Four cases of salmonella were
reported in Huron County after the

County Health Unit warn
residents to stay away from bean
sprouts.
A federal election was called and
local candidates running for Huron-
Bruce began campaigning.
Rob Morley was named new
county warden.
Debate begins over non-
semestered programming in
secondary schools for the fall of
2006.
Pat Newson was appointed the
new director of recreation and
facilities for North Huron.
A meeting to discuss activities and Local area schools presented
events that would be available next Christmas pageants to family and
summer for Campvention was held. friends.

A Brussels woman, Barb Fritz, was among those featured
-on a calendar. The cause was to raise money to help the
families of Huronia Regional Centre residents in their fight
